Well it's not much fun to be not winning.

Actually i am winning, here's why

Since replacing the 900W UPSes with larger 1320W capacity units everything so far has been fine. Unit two is still running with one ati gpu. unit one has been running at full gpu power, one ati and two nvidia now for 6 days, currently using 858W. The load seems to be more stable, it will change once in a while, but the numbers don't rapidly change like on the smaller unit. I'm thinking since it was running so close to max output, 95% plus, it was really over stressed. Now i'm using about 65% of capacity.
I think too the new alpha test client is performing better at project load, as i have not had any dead gpu tasks so far in this 6 days like i had before.
Overall I just have a better gut feeling about this weeks tests, since i haven't had to really sweet talk anything into doing what it should be doing.
This is also good for the team's RAC and my RAC as there has been little down time and no idle time on the gpus so no lost credit time.
I'm not sure if it was power related issue or boinc relataed issue. Time will tell if problems come back.
I may add a nvidia gpu to unit two tomorrow and swap one out in unit 5, or i might wait one more week. haven't made my mind up yet how much i want to fool around with things. I still need to try to get unit 2 back up to running 3 gpus and i still need to use one of those to test fit it in some computers to see if they can physically fit a large full size double width gpu without it hitting any components, some of them looked like it was going to be really tight and i want to be sure before buying something only to find it won't clear. Once I figure out whcih computers can hold physically bigger gpus i can make up a list of what i have and what they can all fit and move some of the single wides into empty computers and upgrade those with double wides. I most likely will not be getting 500 buck units (GTX570 or HD6970's) but will go for something more in the 150 dollar range (GTX460 or HD5770), depending on how many i need to get total. I can concentrate more on this now since it seems some of my other problems are going away. At the moment i think i can upgrade 3 units to double wides and that would give me 3 older 8800GT single wides. i know 2 units at work with no gpu could use those. There are also two more units i need to open up and see what they might fit. The good news is i already upgraded pwoer supplies a while abck on the three units, so upgrading the gpu to a larger newer more power hungry model is no problem. I think also one of the other computers i already upgraded the psu. The others i don't know they may have stock 250W psus. You can run a 8800GT if it has little other load, it will use 224W because it did that with the twins before i upgraded them to larger psus.

Another mystery might be solved with the work computers. I had problems with one of my twins there, It began with one thing not accessing the domain then got worse to the point i even had problems logging in to windows. Then somehow i got in and detached from the domain and then when working on it plugged the netowrk cable into the other port, after that it ws fine. Later tests fialed when i changed ports. So for now it is running on the built in 100Mbps port and not the 1G add-in card. i felt that somehow it was the network controller failing, not totally failed, but some part of it going wonky. I had not replaced that card yet. Then a couple of weeks ago the bosses computer started the same problem. So i diasabled his built in port and stuck in an add in card, and his has been fine since, a couple weeks now. So i think i've isolated that problem. I need to replace my controller, maybe even test the suspected bad one in another non-esentail unit just to prove it. But at the same time i swap that out, i can test fit a gpu while it is powered off.

Internet sales have picked up again, after having 5 days of very few orders, i've already got 6 so far lined up to kick off the new month. 3 of those are also the last of some older items i'm glad to get rid of. The more of those sold the less i have to count for inventory at the end of the year. Actiually i've listed about 1600 items and only have stock on about 1013 now, so i've got rid of a lot of 'the last one left on the shelf' items. 1 is a new item and 1 is a pre-order for items coming in next week.

My team as advanced in the ranks to 34th. we have a little battle going on with another team, they passed us then our team got our act together, we passed them, they passed us, we passed them again, but i think this time we're pulling ahead. 3 Days we move up again and then another month we move up. We are heading for 25th place.

So i now feel like a WINNER !!!

Kongratulations.

Every little bit helps.

Looks like it might rain today, i see a kloud in the sky. So I watered the plants anyway and klosed the kar windows, unlike komputer windows mine don't auto-klose even though the are auto windows.

I had to pick the watermelon I was begining to mold at the bottom and the palnt stopped drinking water. I cut about 1/5th of it off but will still save the seeds in it. The rest looks juicy pink. It is about as big as an average kantaloope. It may get eaten tonight. I think the rest of the plant is dying.

I've been thinking about Netflix. I may drop them all together. The rate I pay now for unlimited streaming plus 1 dvd at a time which gives me 7-8 a month is 10 bucks. It is splitting into two services so the new rate will be 8 plus 8. Not a big increase. They already went up 1 dollar within the last year. I'm actually having touble finding new things to stream but my dvd queue has about a year and a half of dvds to view in it.

What I might do is try amazon streaming for a while. They don't rent dvds. The amazon prime mebership is 80 bucks a year and includes unlimited streaming, so jsut that part is cheaper than 1 year of netflix streaming will be at 96, but also another benefit of amazon prims is free two day shipping on all orders. Not that i'm usually in a hurry. I did search amazon and found a lot of things i could stream, that netflix doesn't have on streaming.

Now for the katch.

currently my dvd player only does netflix, and i don't see any mention of them upgrading it to do amazon.

Option one is to watch amazon on one of my computers. Or i can hook one to the hdtv, if i move one or have a looong cable. Cheapest way. Maybe too I could get one of the unused PS3's back on and use that if the browser part is up to date.

Option two is to buy a roku box for 80 bucks. Not too bad. Limited use though it only does streaming, even though it supports about a dozen services, i would only use one.

Option three is to buy/build another komputer which would have more usefulness. I looked at a cheap decent current model one, 600 bucks but it doesn't have good gpu for extra krucnhin, so it would need an upgrade. I priced out some parts, not as powerful or expensive as my i7's but fairly modern and came up with 700 bucks if I use my own hdd which i have some extra on the shelf. Benefit here is some more power for boinc when i'm not watching tv. Also could be used for data storage or other purposes. More expensive but also more useful.

I'm gonna try option 1 first, i can also do a one month free trial. Then maybe i'll do one of the others.

Now yesterday i decided to put one of those older apc upses back on and put the fifth computer on it. I plugged one in and it told me bad battery. I plugged the other in and it told me bad battery. They both have only been off 1 week and were good at the time i turned them off. So i had some other old, but not completly used up batteries out of the spare battery packs. I tried those but any pair it told me bad batteries. I knew they were going to fail soon, so i'm glad i had actually replaced them 1 week ago. so eight batteries and two more upses going to the recycle place later this week. I guess the other apc unit over by the hdtv will fail soon too. They all are about 5-6 years old and i don't ever remember replacing batteris in them.

WINNING !!!

Before you toss the batteries, if you've got another spare apc unit you might try the batteries in it. It's possible the one(s) you tried is/are bad and the batteries are still OK. Did you check the terminals for corrosion and/or good connection?

Well i'm sure the batteries are out of the extra add on packs i had as i recently tore those apart, they are 5-6 years old. So are the UPSes and the batteries that were in them. I think I got my usefulness out of them. Yes I have one more unit also with extra batteries but it is the same age. I bet it fails soon to. I've did have some bad luck with APC units, including these in the past. They tend to overcharge bad batteries and the batteries swell up. I had to crack one unit apart to puu the swollen battery out. Once i had another model do that and i came home the hosue stunk as it was emitting fumes, i'm just lucky it didn't catch fire and burn the house down. Since 1995 i've gone thru about 13 APC units. So this is one reason i decided to switch brands, the other was i needed some that had pure sine wave and i didn't find any apc listed that way. I pretty much made up my mind when i pulled that last swollen battery out that when the apc units batteries failed i would scrap them. I plan to buy two more Cyberpower units same as i first got, one for the fifth computer and one to replace the unit on the hdtv and blu-ray. I think that will be better and maybe safer to do now before the unit fails, and probably the only reason that one is still going is a lighter load. APC doesn't even make that model anymore, which might say something also. In all likelyhood they already had failed, yet just didn't report it so it ws lucky i repalced them when i did. It will be less trouble and worry to jsut recycle the units and batteries instead of fooling with them in another unit. I can order new ones next weekend as my credit card bill closes friday that way it gives me an extra month to pay for them instead of having to pay for them on this upcoming bill.

I just realized i haven't been making backups. Since i had so many problems to work out I forgot about this. So today i fixed my scripts, Primary data drive on i7#1 is now copied to secondary on i7#1. I'm also coping (running now) the primary on i7#1 to i7#2 and then will also make a copy of the drive on i7#2 to a secondary. Same method i used on the twins. I have one master and 3 copies and also some are in a different computer in case the priamry fails, i still have most of my data, since the last copy which is usually every weekend. One catch i do is the copies are exact, so deletions on the priamry get deleted off the copies, except the last one, it retains deleted files for 1 year. Nice feature I can do with robocopy. So even if i delete something then discover i shouldn't have, it can be on the last drive. I figure if i haven't discovered a boo-boo in a year then its not important.

I guess next will be to turn off some of the drives in the twins. I would like to keep one old copy online, but the 3 extra drives could be be turned off, since no more changes happen to data on them there is no need to keep making backups. I think though i will make two of those 4 drives be boinc drives and migrate boinc off the c drive to its own drive like i did in the new i7s, to save wear and tear on the c drive. The last drive can remain a spare. And that still leaves me some drives on the shelf to use in the new computer if i build another.

I do need to get back to finishing watching my dvd collection. I got delayed with the new computer builds. I had though it would be done by the end of May. I only watched 13 dvds in July. Still a couple months worth to go at about 10 a week so i need to get back on that. Another reson to drop netflix as i've got too much already to watch.

i just remembers i'm supposed to be making a gpu load list. With the next series of clients it will be possible to restrict apps or projects from a particular gpu. Still under development. Waht i want to do is restrict the high useage ones from that middle gpu that doesn't have the best air flow it should have, to keep temps down.
So far i've got
PG=99
DNETC=95
Einstein=68ish maybe
and seti was like 40, see i already forgot and i haven't observed all the projects yet.
I am however seeing goods results from this latest alpha client. No stuck gpu tasks at 0 load which means no wasted hours on an idle gpu and lost credit, sometimes it would be 13 hours before i found out. I've not had to go in there once and abort one on this latest client test run, running 7 days now with full load on both nvidia gpus, plus the ati still krunchin. I get the feeling if i put i7#2 back together, it will run fine and not self-reboot. I made no driver changes in i7#1, all i did was upgrade the boinc client and then re-enable the second nvidia gpu for use. It has not repeated the problems it had before. I've even had good luck enabling gpu projects that have cuda31 apps, before a lot of those were giving errors, now they seem fine.

Question, how do HEAVY Thunderstorms float about Light Winds ?

Dry as a bone here. No rain in sight. Strong wind here, no whimpy stuff. I did get two more rain buckets today at recycling, i now have 7 empty ones, i guess they are defective since they don't collect rain.

I also dropped off those batteries, put them on the pallet next to the other ones I left two months ago which are next to the ones i left months before that. They don't seem to collect many battereis and more than half on that pallet are mine or from work here.

Keith I ALWAYS pick up coins I find on the ground, I have friends that won't pick up a dollar bill!!! I have 3 jugs of pennies here at home, some picked up off the ground, not most by far, but some.

I am getting better, day by day! I was drinking ginger-ale and ate bagels 3 times a day for two days, I added some Gatorade and the weight loss seems to have stopped, I am only down 20lbs now. I had to go do some blood work, unrelated, for the Doctor's appt next week for routine follow-up stuff so I did that this morning. My belt used 3 more notches than normal! I had a bagel for breakfast today, some crackers for lunch and I haven't decided about dinner yet, although it IS time to be thinking about it! My wife made some of my Aunt's recipe lasagna and it had to be frozen as I just can't eat that right now.

JohnC I think I know what you mean by the "D&V Bug", and yes that was it!!

I am still napping ALOT and am still wiped out physically and still have bouts of the D but not the V anymore. I would not wish this on ANYONE!!! Stay away from whatever it is!!!!

No ground turkey here. In fact the freezer is empty except for 2 boxes of vegetables. The frig is almsot bare too. i've been trying to use everything up before I go for a resupply. Got enough left to make it to Saturday.

Guess that's why im not ill. I almost started to look up D&V and then I figured out what you meant. I'm not hungry now. I told you not to tell me.

Oops, I overloaded my systems with some work. I changed the prefs some for testing and also had added a new project, but didn't set the venue so it used the default 100 share and not my preferred of 4 so I got 101 tasks from that project with like now 550 tasks ready to run, each machine. mc.d when into hp mode. 60 projects now attached to the i7s and i've got two more to go. At the moment i'm running 8 cpu tasks (yeah i up'd it 1 more), 2 nvidia, 1 ati and 3 nci on system 1. Soon too i'll have my first sensor project, i joined up with radioactive.

Actually looking forward to the weekend. The i7s still running good. #1 has been rock solid for anther 10 days now. I think the bug is gone. First thing staurday i want to try a test with numebr 2, put both the nvidia gpus back in and see what happens, will the reboot problem come back or is it gone. If it comes back it will tell me it is one of the nvidia gpus, if it is gone then it tells me it was boinc or the almsot overloaded ups. Gotta kinda know.

Mikey, get well soon, you are missed in the forum.

I asked my wife the same thing, nope no ground turkey for me and she is not sick! We eat the same thing for dinner almost every night, we are on our own for other meals though. I am feeling better, so it must have been something that just passes thru and then you are left weak and recovering. I did have some red beans and rice last night for dinner, no spices though, and it was good. That is the first protein I've since Friday morning when I had eggs for breakfast. My Cholesterol is low, as in 113, so I can eat eggs just fine and I usually try to eat 3 hard boiled ones every day for breakfast. An egg is only 70 calories so in addition to providing lots of protein it is low in total calories and the Cholesterol is not a problem for me. I then try to have a sensible lunch and then my wife fixes dinner for the two of us. I switched from sausage, egg and cheese biscuits for breakfast a long time back and the Doctor is okay with this. We even made a pact, I could eat eggs for 6 months but must retest my Cholesterol at the end of that 6 months. If it went up I couldn't eat eggs, if it went down I was okay to continue. Ever 4 months or so now I get retested and the Cholesterol is STILL going down!! My TOTAL cholesterol is 113, not just one or the other, MY TOTAL!!! Now to be honest here the bad is higher than the good, but man it is had to tell me to change when my numbers are so good! Fish Oil has helped me raise the good and lower the bad, but the total is what they look at first! My numbers are close to 50/50 so it is working!!

Actually, they're coming more and more to the conclusion that cholesterol numbers are not as relevant to heart disease as they once thought. The REAL number to watch is the Triglycerides level.

And of course with MY levels that probably means I won't be around in another week or two. So if I disappear sometime soon you'll know I've gone to that great computer show up in the sky.

j/k

So your glass is half full. I wonder how it got half-empty...

I might consider one of those things: my electric bill just came in and last month's heat wave cost me an extra $90 over normal.

Yeah I took 2 pc's off line and put 1 on line this past month, I am hoping that means only a small increase for me. I upgraded to Windows Home Server 2011 for only 50 bucks, I paid 3 times that for the previous version!! Both Amazon and New Egg had it on sale so I used my Father's Day gift cards and bought it. It is 64 bit ONLY which is why I had to take a machine off and replace it with a different one. The other machine I took off because it just wasn't helping that much in the totals.

JohnC if you are out jogging with your Scotch, then you NEED to fall over!! That is WAY too good to be out jogging with! Besides that is why flasks were invented!!

RandyC that is NOT FAIR!!! Every time I focus on one thing they move the bar on me!!! I got my Cholesterol down to 119 TOTAL!!! But my Triglycerides are only down to 203! That is both down from their highs in December 2010 though! I cut the Tri's from 365 to 203 and my Cholesterol number from 164 to 119! My Gout numbers went UP though, THAT is not good!!! They are now in the 'high normal' range! You lower one number and another one goes up!!

Oh well I am back to near normal, still down 20 pounds though, but WINNING again!!

Well that depends on your definition of Normal.

I hope you don't find that 20 pounds you lost, it could be under the bed or maybe it rolled down the hall and ......

Glad to see you typing a little more, must mean you're getting better.

There is going to be a little reduction in my overall mc.n score. I'm trying to spread my contributions around some, after all i'm approching the end of the 6th year here. I've got two more to attach to the i7 which will give me 62 projects on that machine, most are activated only they may be out of work or the bottom of the resource share list. I am however going to slowly lower some of the higher shares and raise some of the lower ones, but not all, so i get a little bigger mix of work.

Back to sales, i've had a good first week for this month at about 35% of the monthly average for this years months.

Oh and i had inquired with one of our distributors about some older product, and they still had some and were saying they wanted to get out of that particular group of items, so i had them send me a quote of what they had. most of it i could sell, things i've already been selling slowly, so i got the boss to make them an offer on it at less than the quote to see what happens. Just found out, they made a counter offer which was good, we got it for 77% of the price, but some of the items were already below our normal cost, others within a dollar or two, so good deal.

Which reminds me, i'm still selling off those other two loads we bought, I figured out the sales, less sales fees and shipping and that makes i've recovered 40% of our cost, but we're doing better than that since that is only internet sales and not what we sold out the front door, i would guess that puts us up around 75-80% since out the front door was some of the bigger and more expensive items. I don't have a good way to add those sales into my total and at this point it would be very hard to go back and check every sale against every item bough and see if it was one of them.

Heading for the week end, and much more malt,
I think it's time to stop jogging, indeed "halt".
That means I can sit with the glass,
more full with Scotch than I care to ask.

Looks like we're getting all our backlog of rain at once. June and July were mostly dry, but August has been wetter than normal. Kinda like walking into a sauna when you open the door outside. Today will be mid-80sF, humid and rain.

Thanks Keith, I DO feel better, I am getting better and more 'normal' everyday! Hey about your sales, could you add a code to each of those outside the normal channel purchases so that when you run the report you can see that 10 items from Group A were sold last month, 2 from Group B etc, etc.? Group A could be the first group purchased, Group B the 2nd etc, etc. While a no Group code would mean 'normal channels', you could even have a Group N for 'normal channels' if you need to. Then you could even have a running total of how much you initially spent on each Group as opposed to how much you eventually make on that money.

Hey RandyC are you standing outside my door looking at my weather too? That is exactly what my local weatherman is saying too!

JohnC I am glad you gave up jogging with your Scotch! I NEVER jog with my bourbon & ginger-ale!!

Keith I too had to spread out my projects this past week, Rosetta stopped issuing units and my WCG projects stopped issuing work too! I was out of cpu work for a couple of day there!!! I had to quickly jump into Malaria just so I could crunch! I have since reduced my Malaria to 10% and added projects to WCG, and Rosetta is now giving out some units again. Whew it was not looking good there but all is okay now!!

WINNING!!

Mikey, I don't have a report to run for this.

I use a spreadsheet for my internet sales inventory and sales, each sales is hand entered but it is a short list of data so does not take long. As I write the invoice in the big system i look up the receipts and can figure out the date and cost of the purchased item then add this to my spreadsheet.

I do have colums that auto compute the sales for certain items, based on receipt date. The two past purchases ahve unique receipt dates, i receeived them in on a sunday, ok it is slightly off from the actual date, but sundays are unique from the rest of the week receipts since there never really is any sunday activity.

There might be a way to run sales for esales in the big system, but the spreadsheet gives me up to the second info and also i monitor the profit on each sale and make a decision weather or not to reorder or change internet prices. I keep manual notes on popualr items to reorder, it is easier. Some items I now keep a separate internet inventory for internet sales only, they are hidden under my desk and the regular sales guys can't get to them. This way i can be sure i alsways have these good moving items.

I think overall my way is better and more efficient, especially when you take into account all my job duties for any one day.

---

Starting the rebuild-powerup test.
I just finished installing the two nvida gpus abck in unit two, reinstalling drivers (same version as before and as one, i want all things eqaual for this test).
Boinc fire up and refreshing with new cuda tasks and then, off we go.
So far 11 minutes uptime, we'll see how long it runs.

WINNING !!!

ps,
this new project, Correlizer ahd a good sloid windows app, runs as part of the almergird-EDGeS grid and some others and they are doing something with genomes (not gnomes). I've put some power in to that for a while. 282 done with credit, 0 errors.

pss,
I should go out and check the power meter, i think the wheel might fly off it as i'm drawing 831W each i7 system. Close to max but not quite.

Well, it's mid-morning and I've had hazy sunshine pretty much 'til now. The radar looks clear too, but who knows what will happen this afternoon/evening?

Scheduled to visit the vampires at Red Cross @11:00. Been rejected the last couple of times due to high BP and/or fast pulse. I've been taking my meds regularly since then so they'll probably accept my pittance. I'm right at 11 gallons now.

Well its 11am and nothing else to do all day except watch boinc krunch numbers.

Did all my chores starting early this morning, watched tv, watered plants, fixed computer, laundry.

I also started drinking before beer-thirty.

I was going to make some kookies, but the butter has to soften, so instead of microwaving it, i think i just let it sit out on the counter and take a knap while it softens, good use of time.

Good news, both i7s uptime now 2 hours, 40 minutes. The goal is 14 days plus.

Oh lets see, i could also be WINNING !!!

That is VERY good RandyC!!I used to give Platelets but the scheduling is not to my liking, the drive is not to my liking and they are not for anyone specific anymore so I don't go. They also want me to stop taking some of my pills for a week or so before I go and my Doctor does not like that idea. I am an O-neg blood type person so they want me, they just can't have me!! It is a 2 hour drive just to get there, a 2 1/2 to 3 hour donation time and then a 2 hour or so drive back home again. One of the ways MUST be in rush hour as the scheduling is not very good. A Platelet donation involves the insertion of a 2 gauge needle, the smaller the number the LARGER the hole, in BOTH arms! In one arm the blood leaves the body and goes into a separator machine and then it returns to the body, minus the Platelets, into the other arm! You look like a drug addict for several days afterwards!! During the process you lay on a couch thingy and they give you a set of headphones and put on a dvd of your choice from their selection. They usually have some pretty close to first run movies to chose from! Each person gets to watch their own movie, it is not like a movie theater, you have your own screen, headphones, etc.

Keith I see now! Good luck on the pc's running for 14 days!!!

I've never really felt comfortable with the idea of Platelet Pheresis. The needle they use for blood donation is plenty big...thank you very much! Two of them is just more than I can imagine. I know you can donate platelets more often than whole blood, but I just can't get up the nerve to try it.

When I used to work for Fairfax Hospital (now INova Health Systems), I would donate and they gave us (some co-workers and me) $10 worth of coupons for the cafeteria. Good deal at both ends, 'cause the cost of whole blood is out of sight! I was just shy of 3 gallons when I left there. That comes to ~$230 in lunch tickets! All I get from the Red Cross nowadays is a T-shirt every once in a while and/or a raffle ticket I never win at. Hey! I got a (Discovery Channel) Shark-week T-shirt yesterday...

Strange it should take so long to get to a platelet donor center. I'd have figured they were a little closer in a metro area like N VA. I know that not every donor center has the platelet facilities, but most of them around here do.

A little weak from loss of vital fluids, but feeling good with myself and...

Well success so far.

Just passted 24 hours, 5 minutes. No warp bubbles so i didn't go backwards in time any. 1 down, 13 to go. Still to early to tell, but i've got a not bad feeling about this.

I guess this means my RAC will go up some more now, i've been hovering below 1M, this should kick it over. My position now is about 550 in the world headed for 140 or so. A little more power and i hope to break into the top 100 krunchers. I'm researching some new gpu's for future replacements and to swap some things around at work by the end of the year.

Oh this new Correlizer project is developing nicely. The front page has been revamped, explaining about mutating gnomes, we need to do something about them, they're worse than orcs. That was a play on words, it's about genomes. I've had 450 plus results, 0 errors. Got another 300 to do.

Today is more R&R, since yesterday i did so little, why not repeat that. I did make some kookies and then off and on tinker with this computer, but really i want to wait out this next test before i start to try to update drivers, add stuff and so on, possible introducing an unknown element that throws them off again, then i would not know if it was a new thing or old thing causing it, so i need to eliminate the old thing first. Maybe later i'll go make up some pasta noodles for later in the week.

We did get a little rain, between three 6-gallons buckets i caught about 2 gallons, which is not much. Even the weather is depressing, Tropical depression Emily looks like it will turn and go back out to sea, so no rain or wind headed toward us.

The only thing not depressing is WINNING !!!

Both i7s still ticking, now 1 day 21 hours.

I have a new way of doing some internet orders.
On i7#2 i look up the orders on amazon.
On i7#1 I remote to work from home, clock in, add customer if needed, add order.
No when i go to work later my orders are ready to process and it is a little less for me to do all at once. I do check them over and there is one more piece of info to add but that is easier at processing time.

When i do them from home i can also listen to/watch tv while i work.

Good week-end so far, 6 order for 7 items with a total of 17 pieces. One order is a repeat customer from this year. I've had a few, even less of past custoemrs.

Oh well, back to bed now, While everyone else is sleeping, I'm WINNING !!!

Just like always!

ME TOO!!

Hey RandyC the closest place that wants my Platelets is Bethesda National Medical Center up in Maryland at the top side of the beltway. Yes this is the one that is in the News as combining with Walter Reed Medical Center into one big center. Right now they are sort of across the street from each other, not directly but only a few blocks apart. Years ago at work alot of us signed up to be donors for a co-workers kid that needed a transplant or whatever, I was a match for someone else and they called me and I was donating for an actual person. Finally one time they told me that person no longer needed my Platelets, turns out it had worked!! Well from then on I was donating to 'the bank' for testing or whatever, so I decided it was too much trouble to do it anymore.

Keith make sure you count your time spent w*&king at home as 'on the clock' time or you will find yourself getting the short end of the stick! They will 'expect' you to do it and then you will be stuck!

Well the system does, it clocks me in and out when i use the accounting software, so there is a record.

I don't tell the boss i work from home. All it does is means i can work 15-30 minutes and home and then not com in as early as before, come in 15-30 minutes later which is still vefore the opening bell.

I'm on a salary, i get paid weather i work long or short hours, i have to do the work.

Yes it su&*s sometimes.

I only get overtime for computer repairs and sometimes other special duties if those need to be done off hours.

The smoke is rolling in again, has been smoke free for weeks.

Winning while my eyes burn.

Another sweaty sticky day, these high dew points are getting old. It was supposed to rain this afternoon but it didn't happen. It is tough to work in that sort climate. I'm envious of all who can work in the A/C.

We still need rain. I heared there was another wild fire. I saw smoke aagain for the first time in 4-5 weeks now and customers walking in reported it was worse north of us.

Oh well, off to water the plants and then off to w%^k. I've got a surprising 5 orders to fill, good for a weeknight. I've already added the customers and the pre-order ticket, so when i do them they process faster. I did three last night and two a moment ago. I think this will help me out some, as it breaks up the typing and staring at the screen some. Also I slept late this morning, got up at 6:30 instead of 4:30, boy I feel good like a WINNER.

That's about what they're calling for here. After today's rain and high in mid-80sF, we get overnight clear and temps near 60F while daytime clear and highs in upper 70sF.

@Keith. I think we've finally caught up with the rain deficit here. If we're due any more in the coming week I'll try to have the weatherman route it down to you via Mikey. ;-)

Winning by the ues of tenuous raido messages in to space, and with good weather all day.

Heavy rain forecast tomorrow early. So, the walk with the dogs might be too wet ... that will mean having to wast three quarters of an hour in the car. Which will be OK as fuel prices have now dropped to $10.36 per gallon.

Well, good news. Warp core has been powered up 3.37 days now without a B..., frozen screen or dead gpu task.

Better news, Momma is back for the 3rd time in the rehab center. Every time she gets there it lasts about 4 days then she goes back to the hospital for another week or more. She's been there now 3 days. Not really any worse, but not any better either. She still can't walk, can abrely move her arms and now is on some medication for her blood sugar level.

I was walking along when a tenuous radio message that had bounced off some space junk hit me in head, then I remembered i'm WINNING !!!

That's okay you can skip me if you'd like, my area needs rain but I do not! Every time my rain barrel gets down about halfway it gets filled back up again by the rain, so I have plenty thanks!

JohnC I think you are mishearing those radio signals, you can't win this is your game, it must be saying to let someone else win!! It must be the lag.

I'm back to more than a million a day credits and i think I can keep it up. A couple more days i'll hit 150 M and i guess i need a few more to bring my RAC back up to over 1M, its at .97M now.

I'll have to have a pep talk with my systems this weekend and see if I can encourage them to work harder.

-

Yeah, i though those radio signals were telling me to win, at least that's what the voice in my head told me they said.

Spekaing of lag, i was thinking this morning how fast my remote link to work was. It use to be so slow, back when i had satellite and we didn't have very high speed here. Now we've got fast here and i've got faster at home, i don't see any lag and there is no wasted time waiting on keystrokes or mouse movement to go through. I wonder how far my signal travels just to get 9 miles up the road.

--

Finished checking in my next load of special sale items. I got 73 pieces, but it is only 24 items. I added what i coudl to the internet store, there are still 5 more to get some info on before i can put them on. I sold 6 of similar items out of stock just before these came in. I set up my spreadsheet to track sales on these, like i do for the other two batches so i can monitor progress. I need to sell as much as possible in 90 days when we have to pay for them. I want to have the load paid for. We'll see.

Thanks for thoughts about momma.

If you didn't see, I passed 150M credits last night, thanks to having a repaired tin foil hat that kept the radio signals.

I also had one of my top 5 days with 1.9M credits and also that does not reflect the credits I get at some new projects not showing on the stat site yet. WOW. I still do not have the nvidias turned back up to stock speed either.

Thanks Randy for finding that hole.

Hey RandyC which do you prefer Matt's or the 5-8 Club? I am speaking of course of the "Jucy/Juicy Lucy" sandwich.

Keith I am not sure you can 'repair' a tin foil hat, I think you will need a whole new one as the 'magic' in the hat is in the original construction and would be lost in any 'repair'.

Well, what a horrible morning.

Found out i need a new tin foil hat.

Awoke to find i7#2 had rebooted because of a bsod event. It ran over 5 days. Actually i'm happy as long as it reboots and keeps on running, if it just freezes up and the kruncher chips go idle, i don't like that.

I'll worry about that later.

Next I get to work and we go no internet. So after wasting an hour diagnosing out internal network and connections, we find out most of NC is out. I was able to do some stuff via my cell phone which is on a different service. We finally got connection back a few moments ago, after 4 hours. So now I can get some work done as a good majority of my work now involves using the net.

Gotta run, someone else can win as I don't feel like a WINNER today.

First WELCOME to the game and good luck!!!! Remember to win you MUST post!!

Second I LOVE buying opportunities!!! The market goes up and down all the time, the key is to have a little bit in cash for those times when it does go down. AND to be diversified of course never hurts either!!

Keith did you look in the logs to see what cause the reboot? And I think the 'tim foil hats' are all sold out until next year!

I thought I had to make my own hat, I'll go get some of that industrial Heavy Duty Reynolds wrap this time, not the cheap store bargin brand that is 4 times thinner. Now if I could only find my spare head, i think it is in the back of the kloset.

Windows is funny, it sometimes comes up with a box on reboot, saying it has reboot because of a bsod, press here to find a solution, it never finds one. I finally though did once find the logs, it indicates a nvidia driver, but it does not say why the driver crashes or what was running, like one of the boinc apps.

I just powered down, as soon as things kool a bit (don't want scorched fingers), i'm gonna pull one of the two nvidia gpu's, maybe even run it in another system by itself and see what develops. If after a week nothing happens, i may swap gpus around and then try another week of running. All i can really think at this point is one of the gpus has a flaw, even though these are superclocked models and are supposed to be better tested and able to run harder than the regular model.

System one has been rock solid all through this, so why is it ok and system two flakey ? Same driver version, same boinc, same hardware models. Does not compute to me except for a bad piece of hardware.

ps

Hmmm...Couldn't this weather have come a bit sooner or waited until the next w$%& week? It's cloudy, cool and rainy. It's nice for the weeds, er, lawn, but I was looking forward to lazing about in the sunshine! It's indoor activities for me today. I have a Tee time at Gander Mountain's new indoor range. The Mrs and I saw the place last weekend and it looks fantastic.

OK. Mikey, I'm starting the next test.

I pulled one nvidia gpu from unit 2 with the power off of course. While I was doing this I noticed that the screw thing on the video cable hits the leg of the rack, and this can actually pull the ati gpu loose some. So I made a mod by putting a chunk of black ahrd foam behind the mobo between it and the wall, to hold the mobo more firm, then I put a short bungee cord from one gpu bracket, around the leg, to another gpu bracket. this will pull the gpus toward the mobo sockets and keep them seated. I did have them twister tied in this fashion, but after studing this that may not have been the best method, so i now feel with the bungee it is more secure, since i don't actually have a back plane to screw them onto. This might have been the cause, as when those fans on the gpus spin up and down that can cause quite a force, and in this case i don't want the force to be with me.

I also powered down one, did same mod with foam and bungee, but i need more short bungees as i only had two left, i need two per unit. I'll get some more and improve on that design.

So i'm off and running again, system one at full power, system two at 2/3rd power. i'm waiting for the fifth elemnt to kool, and then i'll swap out the 8800GT in it and stick in the GTX570 i pulled from two.

[cross fingers]

Your win was not as long because you've got your tin foil hat on and it is blocking the signals telling you to win. My win was longer since I took my hat with a hole in it off.

Nothing going on today.

Have the krunchers running in test mode, 1.3 days and still krunchin.

Still hot and dry here. No rain i nsight. We did have some wind yesterday and it blew my pepper plants over. I tie them off but hadn't put a higher rope on them since they were 2 feet tall. A few broke at the tops but I managed to kget them back upright and put a higher rope in, it is not tight on them, jsut loose but if the wind blows it keeps them from falling over, either that or they got into my kahlua supply.

WINNING again !!!

Don't they seem to be getting shorter and shorter each time ?

Well therre were a few internet sales, I was finished by the time of my post. It was not as many as usualy but the dollar amount was up some, did almost double last week-end. Anyway today being 50% of the month gone, sales for this month are at 77% of this years monthly average, so i'm ahead of schedule and allowed to have some slow days.

now all i can do is sit here and wait for some WINNING to occur !

I presume you refer to skirts and hot pants?

See enough short ones and it a win each time!

Still enjoying decent 2 way satellite broadband rather than the poor ADSL.

We should be getting a UK IP address at the end of September, so the ping rate may fall. But I don't hold out too much hope as each mouse click command and the reply has to take an 88,000 mile journey.

Have to bust in here with some excellant news.

Just got off the phone with Momma. She is at home now, got home about an hour ago. Not really much improvement in her condition, but hopefully being back in familiar surroundings will help her get more better. She had been in the hospital and rehab over 10 weeks.

Yes, but we only drink when we are not WINNING, therefore you need to ..... (j/k)

back to work, it looks to be another busy day.
Yesterday I started with two internet orders. Usually I get few during the day. Every time I finished one and one other thing, another popped in. I had 6 more during the day, plus one from a back-order to ship after UPS showed up.
Today is starting out same way, i had two. Just after i finished those and another regular order, another internet order came in which i didn't get to for an hour as customers kept flooding in the door.
I forgot to add, I added a daily sales total for last two weeks to my spreadsheet. This Monday was almost double last Monday's sales and yesterday was almost double that total again and the best day out of the two weeks. This week so far is almost equal to last weeks sales and i'm now at 88% of monthly sales with still 13 days to go. Plus a lot of items I got rid of recently were more rare older last one left items, which I love to see those go.

not Drinking but WINNING !!!

Good sales day. Started off slow, after 5 orders I got another order that equaled the total of the 5, so it doubled my sales, then just before the end of the day I got one order that was double that amount. So so far this weeks sales are double last weeks sales and I went over the average, at 115%.

My share portfolio before I retired was moved to bonds and the UK stock market stood at over 6,750. My annuities were not too bad.

For those retiring in 2009 the FT stock was at 3,740 and did bot rise back to 5,700+ until a few months ago.

The current falls have taken the stock market to just above 5,000.

Glad I retired at the beginning of 2008, just before the credit crunch was starting to bite.

zzzzzzzzzzzz

Today is dead, actually deader than dead and almost as dead as yesterday.

Nothing going on in boincland, the forums are dead.

I think with my internet sales i'm, selling more than the retail store is and i only had a few overnight orders, nothing at all has come in today. Despite that, this weeks internet sales are more than 1/2 of my internet sales so far this month and this is the second best sales month this year.

back to sleep. zzzzzzzzzWINNINGzzzzzzz

'OI, wake up!

What's all the shouting, i'm trying to sleep late, this is my day off !!!

I've been awake sine oh-dark thirty and on my second kup of koffee. Done feed and watered the plants. Luandry is on final spin. Done some beta testing for Correlizer and worked up something for radioActive. Shhot, forgot to restart boinc, be back in a minute ....

Oops I forgot I shut that down for a test and that was half an hour ago. Need to restart.

Next is komputer maintenance.
Good news / bad news here.

First the Good:
Computer i7#2 with one ati and 1 nvidia has run 7 days, 22 minutes. No problem.
Computer 5 with the other nvidia gpu has run 6 days, 23 hours, 14 minutes with no problem at full power. The nvidias in the i7s are underclocked still 5%. The only reason the one was running at full is i didn't install the software to yet to change clocking in the fifth element.

This is odd (the bad) i7#1 which rarely has problems, rebooted itself 10 hours ago, I would have been asleep then, and this was after it had been on those same, almost 7 days. It however is suddenly having problems running Einstein, the second nvida keeps sticking at 0 load when running two einstein and i've already aborted two tasks, this might have the cause of this weird event and I think it just got around to running that the last day. For the moment i've set NNW for that project. oh another one stuck, abort. Oh good no more waiting, only one left running. This is one reason for this new exclude gpu feature that hasn't been finished yet. When i find problems like this i can exlude a project from one particular gpu and hopefully that will keep things running.

Ok now for todays activities. Since finding those occasionally loose in the socket gpus due to poor warp kore design, <<>>, hit designer on head, Ouch who hit me in the head ? So today i'm gonna skip a test of swapping the two nvidias and stick the second nvidia gpu back in unit two and run again with two gpu's and also NNW einstein. I'm thinking that now that I have a way to keep the gpus tight i have eliminated that problem.

I also have some other things to test on the kore and reconfigure a few things, so in a moment there will be a total power down as i have work to do on most all the elements.

Be back in a while after some WINNING !!!

I too would have gone to my last one of the season last night, the 20th, but a neighbors son got married and I had to miss it. Turns out it was a double header and the local Team won BOTH of them, WOO HOO!! Steven Strasburg was there a couple of weeks ago, the place was packed and I did NOT go, but they said he did very well. I go see the Potomac Nationals, which is about 25 miles South of DC where the Washington Nationals play. Alot of the rehab guys come thru as a tune up for the major leagues. Potomac is a 'High A' level club. There is Summer League, Low A, High A, Double A, then Triple A before you get to the Major Leagues. Danny Espinosa, who now plays 2nd baseman every day for the Washington Nationals used to play for the Potomac Nationals for a couple of seasons. We used to sit there and say' man he is good', I guess we were right!

Life would not be much fun without testing. I love it.

I more confident i've figured out all the i7 problems, although some additional testing is needed and maybe some more konstruction on the gpu's to make them more fixed and unmoveable (?)

--

Next testing is i'm working over at Correlizer now, good admin there and lots of communications. Helping out whip the project up to boincer standards.

Also too i'll be working with RadioActive, this is taking longer as they are building the Gamma sensors that goes on a usb port. There are a few and they are building 50 more already sold, so as soon as us next 50 get ours maybe by the end of September there will be some testing going on from those while they build another batch. That sensort will look kool on the warp core and as it display radiation readiong, I can pretend the kore is not leaking.

And i'm waiting on the next alpha client release to test gpu functions.

I've got a new GTX 460 in the fifth element. That replaced the ol' gt8800 which may end up in a work computer that ahs an empty gpu slot and can only take a single wide card, so perfect match. Yep more power !!! Need to wait another day to see my new output. I need to go check some results to be sure it is working correctly and maybe do some compares GTX460 vs GTX570's.

Next upcoming task, I need to finish off watching my dvd collection. That is going slower since i got netflix and started watching all the streaming plus the dvds they sent me. I'm gonna dump that come the 1st September. Then get back to finisheing off my collection. I may end up getting amazon streaming but first i'm working out how to get sound and video where i want it, on computer and on hdtv plus the sound from both routed to the wireless headphones. I'm thinking of routing the tv sound back into the computer and putting the headphones on the computer, that way either if i'm watching at my desk or the hdtv, including a blu-ray/dvd on the tv, i would have sound at the headphones without having to move any cables or have switches. The video can route from the computer to an input on the hdtv. I was going to do that today using a long vga cable with audio, but i'm missing an adapter from the two rca plugs on the headphone transmitter to a single 3.5mm stereo plug on the computer. i'm sure i ahd one here but could not find it. I'm thinking it is in the garage with some old computer speakers. Anyway by the time i get to the end of the collection here, it will have been 5 years since i started, so it will be time to start again at the beginning, i can watch those again and maybe amazon streaming. I may end up putting in a hdmi cable to the hdtv, as now the gtx460 has an hdmi output and i have an auto 3-to-1 selector on the hdmi input on the hdtv. with that i could watch computer or blu-ray, the third may be hooked back to the ps3 but i don't use that much anymore.

Things are working out and maybe one day i'll have that setup figured out like i watnted 5 or more years ago. Took that long for technology to ketch up to my dreams.

koffee break, maybe some pankakes too.

Are we WINNING yet ???

I once went for five years not wearing long pants at w@#&. I wore sweatpants over my shorts on the drive and outside. Once I was inside I took the sweatpants off and kept a sweatshirt on to keep my core warm. If I kept busy, and I always did, I was quite comfortable.

Trying to play a video on the fifth computer, there is no sound even after I plug in speakers.

Ut-Oh, never installed the mobo drivers after I reinstalled winderz before.

Fixed that.

Now what do I do for a DVD player ?

ps
I found out one thing. I was able to play a streaming video on one of the i7's without having to suspend any boinc gpu activity. The video is on the ati gpu.

On #5 I had to suspend the nvidia gpu to get good video response.

Maybe i'll be using adiffernet computer for videos ?

[edit]

Too tired to win, a quick dinner then lay down and watch a movie or part of one if I fall asleep.

ps, before i go
Checked my BS again, 2nd day in a row with 2M credits, the warp kore is a KRUNCHIN' now. Both main units on 2.25 days now and i also did some heavy streamin' on the #2 unit while still krunchin. These things ROCK !. On an older computer i have to suspend boinc to stream. The twins and fifth are running smooth and a krunchin away too.

I'm at 492 worldwide, soon to break my old position of 459 and within a week will be 3rd on my team, by credit that is, will be 2nd by end of year. As for RAC in in the top 100 worldwide again overall and 1st on my team (for 2 days anyway).

Speaking of records, had some sales records today. Todays started with 6 wekkend order, then got 6 more before cutoff and the sales total was 1/2 of last weeks total. 2 more orders came in for tomorrow. I'm within 2% of having the best month of the year. Even the two week total which is how often amazon pays me, is better than half the months of this year.

Only record I didn't break today was the speed limit.

I better stock up on sodas. The freezer is empty, at least on my side. The frig pretty much too. This time of year I get down on frozen/frig stuff for a good reason. Maybe too i'll fill the three rain barrels up, i've got many buckets with lids filled, but they would last the plants about 3 days. The rain barrels are still empty since 2009. Never filled once since with rain water, and that is not from lack of trying.

Well today i succseeded in BLOWING the sales record, best month ever and still going, 7 more sales days. The two week sales total which ends tomorrow, is better than 4 out of 7 of this years previous months, and i might jsut beat out one more by tomorrow.

WINNING at catagory 3 speed.

Keith, don't be so quick to try sending her away. According to a weather related article I read, she might just come soak that fire up on the NC-VA line that's been burning for some time now.

Sitting a long way off from Irene and...

WINNING!!!

It seems her friend "Breaking News: 5.8 earthquake hits D.C., Virginia, New York" comes first!!!

I think it was just Mikey falling out of bed :)

One guy here said he felt it but I think he is full of it, when big trucks drive past on the highway or in the parking lot and hit that pot hole, or a sonic boom from those navy jets, the building here can shake, we are on a sand bar.

PS
A magnitude 3.9 earthquake has struck Colorado at a depth of just 5 km ( 3.1 miles), the quake hit at 14:11:13 UTC Tuesday 23rd August 2011

Magnitude 5.9 - VIRGINIA. 2011 August 23 17:51:03 UTC Depth was 1 km

Two in one day only 3-4 hours apart.

So i'm gonna get burned, shaken and blown ???

What next, are any meteors coming my way ???

Well, *I* felt the quake. At first I thought it was just someone heavy-footed walking past my cube. But when I didn't see anybody near by I figured I was just imagining things.

About two minutes later a co-worker says: Breaking News...an earthquake just leveled Washington DC...well, maybe not leveled... :( However, I know there's a few politicians we could do without...

The initial quake in Colorado is now rated 5.3 and an aftershock this morning came in at 3.9. The Virginia quake was initially rated 5.9, then dropped to 5.8. They're saying aftershocks to it are likely too.

WINNING!!!

I think i figured out what happened yesterday. it was not earthquakes. That was me halting the warp kore for an emergency stop of my teams' ship to pick up a krew member from another team and with kombined power our team kicked into high warp again. You felt the aftershocks of a boinc bubble rippling though the kredit ranks. Well I was number one on the team for three days, out new man now has this spot. I'm excitied as out team will now be generating 9-10M a day. We were headed for 25th place, now maybe 18th. Even better he was from the team jsut above us, so as they loose position we gain on them faster and within a week will pass them then keep moving up.

Nor for Irene, latest check shows her about to blo' me down 'ere matties. I've got to make preparations, go shopping for a few things, i keep a lot of stuff that could be eaten with out cooking or light cooking and i've got a gas burner as a backup and a gas grill too. I filled water barrels last night in case we loose power at the water supply goes off or a line breaks. I don't know about the plants. Moving them all in is not easy. i may move a few and leave the rest out and take my chances.

WINNING !!!

Yes we have had at least 3 aftershocks that I know of! NO DC is NOT leveled!!! A few monuments did get some damage and they of course are checking EVERYTHING but mostly superficial damage so far! By superficial I mean a few facades of the end of buildings fell down, but they are not structural, the Washington Cathedral lost a few crosses way up sat the tippy top, the Washington Monument seems to be cracked near the top, etc. None will be cheap to fix, but none are devastating either!! I personally had a few things fall off shelves but nothing was damaged and all is okay. At first I thought it was Quantico Marine Base dropping their bombs again, me house seems to be on the same rock they are pounding, but it kept going and going. I had just gotten back from my usual Tuesday lunch and had laid down for an afternoon nap and the slow rumbling started. Then it continued and the swaying started, the swaying was probably more perception than actual physical movement, although things had to move some. After about 10 to 15 seconds I got up and went outside and the neighbors were all out talking about it so I knew it wasn't just my house! I went back to my nap and slept thru the next two but was awake last night when the 3rd one, that I know about, hit. It was not as big as the first one but I instantly knew what it was, and then it stopped.

No need for that. Come Friday afternnon probally we will put up metal aluminum shutters, special cut to fit across our windows top to bottom and they bolt into a track. Well actullay the back door we duct tape shut as it doesn't seal 100%.

I stopped and bought 4 extra cases of soda, a case of water and 4 jars of peanut butter this morning. I forgot the bread. On the way home i'll stop and get extra rum. Those are just extra extras just in case.

Last check she was headed for my front door. Actually they have it a little east of Hatteras, that would put it up the sound on the east side of me. That too can change, i don't worry about it, if it comes it comes.

Strange tough, the road seems empty of traffic and very few shoopers out today. I guess they don't need shoes, the shoe store has been having a sidewalk sale the last week. I get to watch people come and go. Now they are just gone.

More shaking last night at 1:08 AM, it woke me up!! Fortunately still no damage though!!

Keith I hope your place and the shop come thru the storm okay!! I would hate to think of you being homeless or with no place to work!! I want to retire to the beach some day but am thinking maybe 4th or 5th row at least due to the storms. My wife likes just laying on the beach all day, but as long as I have internet I am okay wherever I am!

Hey, It can blow my job away, that's what insurnace is for. Besides we need a load of new modern computers for free all with GPU's of course.

It is also good for business as it damages boats and they have to buy new stuff, have waterlogged equipment needing repair.

Ot-Oh - The county has just called for a mandatory evacuation of Residents. When they do that it ususally means a direct hit.

-

Just when I get things fixed. The warp kore is a krunching. i had my best day yesterday at 2.5M, until today that is which is already up to 2.8M and that is still not full power or overclocked plus i'm not running all the gpu's i have and have plans for upgrades here at work. We'll they don't kall me Lrunchin' for nothing.

Well good morning,

Today is a real work day. First I have to go to work for a whuile and do nothing, then help put up the storm shutters, maybe 30 minutes of heavyish lifting there. Turn off all the computers. Sorry but if there is flooding or voltage spikes or shorts on the lines it may cause damage, so better to be as safe as possible.

I moved some plants this morning up to the porch. I brought three inside so far, those are ones that don't have drainage and i don't particularlar want them full of water. I might move some more in later but i think i have enough tied off or positioned out of the wind to make it through.

The storm now seems to be way to the west inland, although the current track will put the strongest part of the storm moving close by. There will be some flooding as it pulls water up into the sounds on its western side which will be over the sounds. Now it is crossing the open ocean, where it has time to strengthen and change her mind on where to go, so ignore everything as it will change. As in a few days ago they had the storm passing by on the east side of us in the ocean. Hey at least i get out of some work.

Its still dry and calm here, although it is hot outside and the air feels thick with humidity.

I was going to have an internet blow-out sale, but sales are so good i don't think i can handle the extra load. best month ever, in fact the last two weeks of sales for this month were better than all but 1 month this year. And i still have a weekend and four days next week to add to this months record total. On selling off our special loads, i have recovered 41% of out money of the first two special purchases. Were doing better than that as i don't record the retail out the door sales. I've also recovered 25% of our money on a third special order we got at special prices and 90 day payment terms. i expect to have most if not all of that paid for by the time we have to pay for it. Its only been about two weeks so far gone by. I was studing the inventory the last few days, trying to see what i should restock on. i'm having trouble predicting any pattern for most items. Things that sold well in the spruing, have been dead for the last three months. Other itmes are up and down with no regularity, meaning if i took 10 like items they all would have differnet ups and downs, no common likeness to sales over any period of time. And i have a longer than normal list (double in length of items) of things to reorder, but it all has quantities of 1 or 2, no 6s, 9's or 12s like i once ordered, the only thing is i still have enough of those items in stock to not reorder yet. It's just as hard to predict internet sales as it is the weather.

It's going to be nuts going into labor day where boaters want to use their boats but put off fixing stuff until the last minute, now on top of that there is going to be some damages from the storm all just prior to that.

@Mikey, yeah hold on, Irene is headed your way to. you may not get the storm surge and high winds we get, but you'll get a lot of the leftovers. After all that is what the outer banks is here for, to protect the inland.

Signing off for now, may be back later.

Keith is probably in hiding somewhere but I am still here!!! I will be going out of town tonight or tomorrow, depends on if the airlines switch my flight for free or not, but I am leaving the area for a few days. Most of my pc's are already off and the rest are finishing up their caches now. This is NOT hurricane related though, just 'use or lose' time so gotta go! I will be taking my netbook with me though, so no loss of WINNING time for me!!

Forgive me, i hadn't had any koffee yet.

Well I got here, the store next door was putting up plywood, haveing to cut the sheets, they already had one of 5 pieces up.

Three of us started on putting up our pre fab shutters, and in less time were done, those other guys are still working. We had a little more window are to cover too. Maybe the only smart thing our boss man did was buy those shutters the first year we were here. ahven't used them every year, but it saves lots of time and then no wasted wood after the strom. We just unbolt them and pile them in the back far corner of the building where they take up little space. 1/2 hour and the job is done.

Got a couple of orders to fill, then i'm done for the day.

WINNING on a full brain of koffee !!!

Still here.

Windy. Wet.

Still got power.

I was shut down for maintenance. Had to make some adjustments to the gpu's and securing them. Added a u shaped bar, up and down, on the outside of the shelf bars, running 90 degress to them but inline with the gpus. The bungee cords now go from gpu, around the bar back to the next gpu or same gpu. Two cords for three gpus. This provides pull directly across the bracket toward the socket.
-
The reason for this latest mod was an improvemnt on the last mod whic hwrapped the cords around the shelf legs, but that pulled the gpus sort of in the correct direction but also out and away, not that they can move that way due to the socket. This new mod was just a better way to do it.
-
All this too was because, i7#1 went funky, really funky after 5 days. It started trashing gpu work, then the screen flicked and i got nvidia gpu error, recovered driver. no bsod, but when it flickered 12 times in a row, i shut it down, pressed on the gpus, restarted and it was perfect again. #1 was always the better of the two. On the other hand, i7#2 had run for 7 days, at full sock gpu speed with out so much as a beep. It has never done taht before.
-
So i made some slight improvements, am back online and running all gpus at full stock speed. Lets see what happens now. i'm burning away at 14,334Gflops.
-
Well now back to bed to watch more tv, not much else to due during a hurricane excpet WINNING !!!

The weather is perfect here, sunny, cool and calm. I hope the East Coast doesn't get it too bad though. The last thing we need is more damage.

Well being stuck at home with nothing to do but watch my kruncherz krunch and drink is all i got to do.
-
Actually now i'm experimenting. I ran a 25ft hdmi cable from i7#2 over to the hdtv. Sound comes from a second wireless transmitter on the computer. So i ahve two set of headphones, both on the same channel. I can listen to dvd if played on the blu-ray to the hdtv, or listen to streaming from the computer. Also what i did was make the hdtv a second monitor on the i7. So i move the window over and can watch streaming from across the room, while stil doing other computer stuff on screen one. This is Kool.
-
My Netflix is going to be canceled come September 1st and i'm going to give amazon streaming a try for a while. Don't get dvds in the mail with that, but it will be cheaper per year just for streaming. I also have plenty of dvds to watch if i can't stream. The only drawaback is i will no longer have remote control and if i'm in bed, ahve to get up every time a program runs out to start another.
-
My RAC should be climbing again now if I can kkep the GPUS online. I got a sucky 1.1M today after yesterdays 2.0 after my best day of 3.0M. I hope i can get back up 2.5-3.0M is where i'd like to be everyday.

Most kool.

I was trying to figure out where Irene was. I decided to bring up google earth. They have the storm track on there. She was 51 miles SSW of me an hour ago and the eye will pass 20 miles west of me. Although at 12 mph it will take about another 2.3 hours to get there. Then she will head offshore and travel up the eastern shore.

Unfortunately my plants are not. A lot of them were stripped bare of leaves, have broken off tops. Some will survive, some might recover, I don't know. Others are fine as they wer more hardy plants and the ones i was able to move against the porch house wall are fine. My flag is torn and the pole pulled down, i have to go out and refix that and re zipty the flag on. The house seems fine. I'm tired as i didn't get much sleep due to that tree banging on the side of the house and scratching at the window, why could that not break ?

I'll have to check on dad later today. The eye was due to pass him around 2:00 am and about 25-30 miles east.

Meanwhile, sun's now up, I am high and dry and...

Yes today will be a beautiful day too. the sun is out and few clouds in the sky, although there is still some wind. I'll be in and out all day slowly tidying up and repairing plants, untangling them and trying to get that one remaining leaf in the sunshine.
-
I broke a record today, My previous high position of 459 worldwide back on 2005-12-14. I had fallen down below 1000. So now that the super warp kore is running i've been climbing these past month and today broke past 459 to 454th. That is just as good a feeling as waking up this morning right were i fell asleep as in the house didn't get blown or float away.
-
Bad headache though, I guess from lack of sleep. I see a saw in my future and a tree that is going to loose a limb or two.

WINNING in the sun and what a beautiful warm sun it is !!!

Irene is now a Tropical Storm located on the northern Mass. border, about to run up the border between Vermont and New Hampshire, and then into Canada.

Dad's response to all this was "Hurricane? What Hurricane? I've had thunderstorms with more wind and rain than Irene".

In all honesty, according to the storm tracker, it dropped from Cat-1 to TS status just south of the Delaware state line. So yes, What Hurricane?

Looks like dad and I are both...

WINNING!!!

I'm glad to be here.

Well I made it to w&%k this morning. I'm moving slooow.
-
Took 1/2 hour to get through the door because the last idiot out put the panel on over the hing and force it to bolt on, it had lots of pressure on it and I had no tools to remove the nut under pressure. Finally found a stone to use, it is a wing nut so it fit between the wings.
-
The bad part comes next. powered up server and network gear ok in the dark as the lights would not work. Got to my computers ok. But no internet. Then I discovered our 24 port network switch had only a power light and fan, no port functioned. So it took me a while to unpack two 8 port switches and move wires around, then reboot everything again. The lights take a while to warm up as the boss won't buy new bulbs to replace the maybe 7 year old ones. They come on very slow. Three hours later they are on now, mostly.
-
So now 3 hours later i've got my first order done, 5 more to go.
-

I had to ask what next.

We are now under a Tornado Warning. The only one in the whole US.

Bummer. Let's see now...an earthquake, a hurricane, and now a tornado (warning). What could be next? Asteroid(s)?

Unlike me, you are definitely not...

Given the hazards of living on a coast, fault, storm path, etc., the cold of winter in Minnesota doesn't look so bad.

Well nothing bad happened today. No vilent wind, flood waters or ground shaking and the sky did not fall on my head. Things are improving.

also too i'm WINNING !!!

ps
our network is limping along. I've nothiced some lag here and there. With two 8 port switches ganged together. I at least put me and the server on one switch, and the other guys on the other ganged off the first. I ordered a new 24 port switch for 140 bucks. the old one cost us 250 i bet about 5 years ago. the bandwidth of an 8 port is 2G, but a 24 port is 48G so you can see the difference. I'll have the new one tomorrow as amazon mailed it the same day i ordered it.

Hi John,

Is your new speed still holding up?

WINNING!!!

Yes, very much so.

I have now gained the experience of over 6 weeks of download speeds of between 8.5Mbps and 12.5Mbps (seems contention happens on satellites as well).

I have now cancelled the ADSL (went on 24th August) and the land-line carrying it should cease to cost me today as the twisted pair are removed.

2 way satellite is shunting along fine, and I find I am now pumping out about 16GB per months with Skype and BOINC.

Hey John...I am glad to hear your satellite is working well, gives me hope for wherever I might move that I can still get get high speed net!!

Keith is your old 24 port still under warranty, sometimes those big ones comes with good warranties, if so you could sell it, after it is repaired, in your store, or even keep it as a backup.

Actually it is, it had a 5 year and runs out next year. However the process is a P..n. First you have to get a case number. Then they sent me an email asking for information i put in on the form to get the case number. Then they sent me an email telling me they determined my unit was defective (I din't know the lights not coming on and no data passing through it made it defective, duh). Next you have to go to another form and put the case number in to get an rma number. This form doesn't work and loops around if if you try a second time it tells me i don't live in canada.

My plan was to get a new one, the new one is a "green" one anyway. Get the old one fixed as a spare/backup. At some point i plan on moving our server and reqiring cables to computers which was going to be a pain requiring a day of rewiring. After some thought, i can put the spare, if i have one, in the old location and the new one in the new location, chain them together, then move stuff and rewire as time permits, slowly repalcing older routed cables to old swithc with different or new cable to new switch. then as some point al the cables will be rerouted, no down time and then the old switch can be put into spares pile. I could still do this anyway using the extra double 8's and not worry about wasting time with the broke unit from D-Stink.

The new one has a lifetime warranty, now i see why as it may take a lifetime to get a rma number.

I don't think i'm WINNING today !!!

Got home yesterday to find my mailbox laying on the round. It survided a hurtricane but not some idiot driving down the road. The post is fine so i'm not sure how it was hit. There is a house across the street under construction, i'm guessing something to do with that. I had to put it on in a different position because of broken plastic around the screws. Then my red flag is broke but maybe with some duct tape, zip ties and glue i got that reassembled. Now that it has had all night to dry, let me go out and see if I can get it back on the box.

I'm on my 4th mailbox since I moved in here 18 years ago. Someone has a baseball bat. I've got one too and I'd like to find them. It's actually been about 3 years since the last incident...with any luck they've moved away.

Mailbox is still good and I am...

It was 10 years old. Victim of a hit and run, they left no note. Found it laying on the ground on it's back with it's feet pointed up. DOA.

They hit it hard as the black plastic is stressed and turned white in several lines. I had secured it to the post with 2 inch screws, those were still in the post.Only tore the plastic around where they were screwd in, so i had to slide it back some and use other holes.

My flag di not fit back on. I had to cut off some of my addon brace and now it is limp. I'll have to try again tonight with that in mind. This weekend during the upcoming labor day sales, i'll look for a new one. I like this one as it is wide and can accept small packages and i get those a lot, like a box full of dvds.

-

Had to rush out earlier. Now while i'm waiting on a report to print...

I had a great internet sale month. My monthly average is almost double last years average. The first 4 months of this year I had below this new average, but better than last year. Then I had an average month, a month 1.5 times average, another average month and last month was 103 bucks short of being DOUBLE average. I looked at number of orders, it was less than 10% more than most months, so it means i sold more expensive items.

Oh well back to the grindstone, maybe later I can be WINNING again.

A neighbour down the Ginnel has has 2 way satellite broadband installed now, because he was fed up losing the ADSL at critical points of his Internet business. So, they are spreading.

Is it allowed to put strong mail boxes up to replace the one DOA by hit-and-run-drivers?

You know, ones with reinforced concrete bases that would wreck a 44,000 Intercontinental Lorry is it hit your mail box.

That would really be winning ... coming home to a DOA truck which was killed by your mail box.

No, the bigger ones tend to attract bigger trucks, those people with those monster trucks drive around looking fdor things to run over.

There are regulations you have to follow about height, distance from edge of road. Also the area of "your" yard where you put this is not really yours, it is part of the city right of way and for any reason they can require it to be moved, a very permanent one might be costly to tear up and rebuild. It would be cheaper to put in a motion activated camera and catch the bad driver on tape, then get a court order requiring him to make restitution and to repalce your box. It would be worth it just ot embaras him/her in front of thier frineds. Actually it would just be better to go buy another 10 buck mailbox and a 6-pack of beer and not stress over it.

As you can tell, i'm posting a lot today because my mailbox is dead, my plants are dead (from the wind storm) and internet sales are almost dead, better than walk in sales. Yes there is nothing to do here today at w*&k, i hope i can hold out for two more hours of nothingness. And there's no sidewalk window shoppers to watch walk by, if you count the cars in the parking lot and subtract the employee cars, well that leave NONE. It is stagnant out there.

Well at least there is WINNING !!!

If you have to conform to a range of height, etcm sie, and other, restricyiond. Then return to the welded steel tamk trap as the size is simular. But the result on truchs side swiping the new design post box will be the revenge method to see the tyres and sided rupped from the perps.

Today's forecast is for HOT and MUGGY! High just under 100F. Heat advisory in effect and possible thunderstorms late afternoon and evening.

On the brighter side, rumor has it that it will get somewhat foggy in the office about 2 hrs before quitting time and some unscrupulous employees may take the chance to slip out without the boss seeing.

Definitely...

I was not able to repair the flag, well enough to make it stay on and be useful without breaking again.

So I went internet browsing to see choices. Mailboxes cost $17 to $190. Didn't see one i really liked and was still going to look around locally first to see what is available, hopeing i could find the same one as I bought that around here somewhere. Then I stumbled on replacemnt flags, cost $7. I'll be out shopping this week-end anyway and see if I can find one, otherwise I jsut order one online next week. Problem solved.

Keith you w*&k in a place with a lot of shelves..just go back and cruise them for something you can cut with some snips and make one. A couple of washers, nuts and a longish bolt, some spray paint and you have yourself an almost free flag! Mailboxes have minimum and maximum sizes but most mailmen don't care if if works easily. You could also put a metal pipe for the 'post' so if they hit the box they hurt their car!! After that a webcam hooked upt ot a spare harddrive and you are good to go!

And I have never said I wasn't 'off' a little bit, after all I did run INTO burning buildings for a living! Up to 20" of rain here over the next few days but since I leave tomorrow AM I will miss most of it.

WINNING!!

As luck has it I am not winning again.

Got my new 24port switch. No problem there. Power it up and swapped connections removing the two 8 port switches. Don't exactly like the new one. The old one has two rows of 12 ports and the lights are 2 x 12, so it is easy to match lights to ports. The new one is still 2 rows of 12 prots, but the lights are in a 4x6 matrix, so to see if a port is on, you have to read the numbers, taking more time. No difficult, just not easy.
-
Then I decided to clean out the server air filters over the raid array. There are 3 drives with blinky green lights and one with solid yellow. Looked suspecious to me so I had to find the manual whichhas never been opened. Solid Yellow means DOA, replace it ASAP. I have no idea how long our server has been running on a 3 drive raid array. The drives are 7 years old now. So i looked up, a replacement costs a whopping 85 bucks, so I ordered 4 jsut to be safe. I may swap out all 4, one at a time of course and then keep the old 3 working drives as spares. This will be my first raid rebuild. More fun lined up for next week. They only have a 5 year warranty, so no free replacements there.

Too slow I am back home and my pc's are now back up and running and contributing to the power grid brown outs!!

Keith you said you needed a spare 24 port hub, why not go to the computer store and buy the one you REALLY want and tell the boss this one is okay until the good one comes in? He will appreciate you thinking ahead and you can then sell both the 2 8 port ones and the 24 port 10/100 one that needs repair, let someone else deal with it.

WINNING!!!!

... A couple of washers, nuts and a longish bolt....

This gave me an idea. So today I did some creative work using s strip of wood, silcone sealant, super glue, duct tape and a zip tie. Used the wood as a brace on the two broken parts. Had to fill in gaps with the sealant. wrapped the zip tie around the outside edge of the flag bottom then super glued it on to the two halves, glued on the brace, wrapped that in duct tape. Next I got a drill, drilled a holed through the center of the broken shaft. Got that long bolt and some washers out of the mr.fix it screw bins and bolted the flag back on, cut off the excess bolt and sealed over it, so no sharp edges for the mail carrier or us to scratch or cut hands on. It works well enough to know when it is up or mostly down. and most of it is still red, so the mail carrier knows what it is for.

Now if anyone breaks a leg, I have a fix for that.... [Cheaper than a visit to hospital]

Also today i finished cleaning off porch, removing dead wind burned leaves from plants and straightening up things outside.

Then it was clean off the kitchen counters behind and under all the appliances. After the storm we had an ant invasion, I guess scavengers as maybe thier food supply washed away. And put out some new ant baits, the old ones were 3 years old.

Next I canceled Netflix. The rate goes up for me next renewel which would be in 2 days, so for a while i'm gonna cancel that. I signed up for amazon prime which gives me free streaming. I've got enough picked out to watch for a while. I don't know if i'll find enough to watch for a year as a lot duplicates stuff i've already watched. i'll see. Earlier I watched some shows in samll window while still working on the computer. Now i'm watching some Sarah Connor Cronicles fullscreen and soon i'm gonna more the window over to the other screen which is th hdtv, then go lay down and watch. i've got the sound on the wireless headphones and added a hdmi cable from a second port on the ati card to the hdtv, works great being 25 foot long. Also i can watch while still boincin, don't even have to suspend processing, and video is smooth, no pausing or jitters.

And now I discovered I'm WINNING !!!

I am a bit round myself, more than a bit some would say, but who listens to them anyway! My rac is moving back up towards the normal range, about 1.6 million per day is normal and I am already in the 750k range! I also regained 2 of the places I lost in the World stats, I am now at number 146!

WINNING on this Labor Day!

Happy Laborless Day,

Today I don't do any labor, except water the plants and cook a meal or two.

My Nephew just joined my team, which by the way is smokin' hot like a well used gpu and gaining power, moving up towards the top, we're in 34th, will be 33rd in a few days and then headed for ??, so many new krunchers I can't figure it out and our RAC hasn't had time to settle.

I'm also coming after you Mikey, It 429th by credit, climbing past 5-8 a day, heading for the top 100.

So abck to video watching, relaxing and WINNING on this day off.

Well this Laborless day isn't quite. Got laundry to do; clean-up limbs that blew down in the storm Saturday night (I really should dig out the chainsaw and set-up the log splitter); and work on cleaning out the spare bedroom vacated by youngest daughter and SO last December...and where we, of course, managed to store tons of stuff in the meantime.

Where does all that junk come from anyway??? Well, I guess I am...

I had some chili mac in New Orleans last week and the chili was more like sausage gravy. It was NOT tomato based at all and although good it was funky, they also used spaghetti noodles instead of elbows or screw noodles. The elbows and screw noodles are better as you can then eat the chili with a spoon instead of a knife and fork!

As for what went by me yesterday, only ideas and rain, two weeks ago I left DC just in time to miss Irene. This past weekend I left New Orleans just in time to miss Lee, it seems I am sitting still too long as Lee has followed me home and is going to be giving me her 'how do you do' for the next several days!! I sure hope New England recovers by next month when I go that way!

No problem Keith if you get too close I will just turn on a few more machines and zoom away again! Also I hear the AMD 6990 gpu's may be VERY fast and I think they may be calling me!

Well what an exciting day.

First my team broke the 3B barrier at 3am.

Today wans't bad for not Monday.

Today I fixed our raid array. This was almost one of the eaiser repairs I had ever made. did not have to turn pwoer off, it's hot swap. so open the door, flip the lever, pull drive out. I did have to remove 6 screws to get drive out of frame, the difficult part one had a stripped head, and these are 6-point star heads. I've never pulled them out, os it was either the dealer or the manufacturer that screwed the screw. Anyway i finally got that last screw out. put new drive in, put 5 screws back in, plug back in and lock it down. Then the array fixed itself, didn't even have to push a button. I did install the serverraid software so i could monitor progress. it now says all is ok. it only took about an hour maybe to rebuild. I may swap the other three drives later in the week. i feel i should, but then if it ain't broke, don't touch it.

This also happens to be my parents 64th Annivesary today. I just called them for a chat. Dad still doing great. Talked to mom and she was more responsive today and not very forgetful but she didn't quiet remember the date or month and was mixed up when her anniversary was. She is still mosdtly laying in bed but has several people besides dad to help and vist every day. Nothing bad, so at least that is encouraging. I'm not quite as depressed as some days from calling down there.

and best of all, I'm WINNING !!!

Aaaah! It's nice to breath again.

2 way satellite went down about 13.00UTC today and returned about 1 hour ago.

Apparently the Tooway satellite system means those with satellite, mike me, across the whole of Europe were offline.

I had satellite tv in New Orleans and during the storm Lee it went out several times, it is a pain and why I prefer the wired when I have a choice. In your case JohnC I would be satellite too though, way too slow for wired!!

Keith do you guys do off site backups? If no then this could be your chance, put a new drive in and take the old drive and take it home, or send it home with the boss, and then you have an off site backup. Do this once a month or even once a quarter and you have a backup system most businesses never even think of. One IT guy, Steve Gibson of Spinrite, puts his backups on disks and sends them to his mom every month. She just puts the package on the shelf 'in case'. That is actually his 3rd backup, his 1st is like yours on site, his 2nd is his own home and 3rd is his mom.

Yes, we discussed this before.

I have an extra onsite backup of certain data and that is also copied to a second drive on another computer. i have an offsite backup. The server is raid something, stripped, not mirrored, data is written on 4 drives and will function with 3 good ones (i found out after 7 years). The drives are hot swap. So no for that, i can't just plug in another drive and save the old drive as it would contain only 1/4 of the data stripped across them and only at that particular point in time, it would not work if plugged back in at a later date as that 1/4 would not match the remain 3/4 that i sure would change over time. Those drives are also 15K Cheetahs, I guess after 7 years one of the cheetahs got tired of running around in circles, the other 3 and the new one are now competing for 1st place in the long distnace run. have far have they run at 15K/24/7/365x7-hurricane down time ?

and as things go round 'n' round, it appears i'm WINNING again

Stuck upstairs due to a jammed chair on a stairlift for Sheila. No power seems to be reaching the chair swivel mechanism, and we are still waiting for the service technician.

Flip the breaker John! I KNOW you already did it but like a pc try it again. My dad got one of those stairlifts for my mom, we always thought an elevator would be better but he wanted the stairlift so he got that. She uses it but only with him walking alongside as she goes up and down. I told him I thought that was dangerous but he doesn't listen to me.

Keith I thought we had before I was just making sure.

I'll take some, oh we got a little. Was raining fairly good at home and looked like it had been for an hour or more before i woke up. It's 9 miles to work and dry as a desert here, although it did try to sprinkle on me walking from the car, but the sun is out here all bright and shinny.

Yeah Mikey we did talk about backups, which reminded me, due to a lot of personal problems I had been forgetting some things. i brought the offsite back drive in today and started one to it, it had not been run since 6-1. I've been really distracted. I guess i was worring about momma all that time.

The county is running the clean up trucks now, they started yesterday. All day long i hear and see them go up and down the road. Usually we have bulk pickup two times a year, they make special pickups after disasters. I had a guy that works for us on occasion and lives on my street cut a bunch of bracnhes on trees at my house. i figured he wasn't doing much work now anyway as we have no jobs for him, so i'd at least give him something to do for a few bucks. i tried to do some myslef, but with my bad hand/wrist i can't do that type of work very well anymore, no grip or strenght in that arm to contol heavy things like that. I am looking at getting one of these mini-electric pole chain saws instead of the manual pole saw we have now, that way i can at least keep them trimmed pretty well. They kind of need trimming twice a year. I saw (no pun intended) a rather good reviewed one for 70 bucks, not the cheapest nor the most expensive, which should be enough for me, we only have 4 trees. it can cut up to 6 inch branches and has a reach of about 6 feet out or 10 feet straight up. you can't go 10 feet out becasue of the weight of the motor on theend of the pole and i'm probally not strong enough to hold that. but i can get under most things i would need to cut and let the falling braches bounce off my head. do you think my tin foil hat will protect me from that or is that only good for satellite raido waves ?

lets see, did i forget anything, oh I forgot i'm WINNING !!!

Stairlift repaired.

The problem was a micro switch on the seat rotation for the top of the stairs. It got jammed and locked power off for the down and up traerse.

I have been shown a simple way to sort it out should it happen again.

Now I'm winning, and the number is getting nearer ...

Does that involve kicking it, ya know give it a boot ?

Kindy busy today with stuff. Used time for some computer maintenance. Opened one unit up, dusted it out and had to replace the failed Gbe network card. I had been limping along on the built in 100M port for a while here. Also i found under my desk a new in the box GTX560Ti and I have no idea who left it there. It mysteriously showed up about the same time I got that new network 24port switch, maybe it fell out of the bottom of the box [wink-wink]. So i thawt, why not test it out so I pulled the 8800GT and replaced it with the GTX560Ti. I can see a big difference now in screen redraws and i guess it will krunch some boinc in the background better but that is a side benefit.

The countdown begins!

Yes it does...the Formula One Qualifying begins in a few minutes, 8AM my time, for Monza, Italy and it should be exciting! Ferrari is on the back foot but trying hard to outdo the Red Bull and McLaren cars at Ferrari's home track! Red Bull has all but wrapped up both the drivers and constructors championships again this year. it will be 2 in a row if they do, and Ferrari and McLaren are not happy a 'drink company' is beating them at their own game!

As for counting down to the weekend, it is ALWAYS the weekend when you retire!! And as Jimmy Buffett says "it is 5 o'clock somewhere'!!

Hey, you guys are still here.

Yes it's not what i kall komort-o'thirty, well its past that time, i soon as i finish this last bit of koffee. i needed extra koffee for this mornings activities.

install updates.

A & B got backup of boinc plus other backups, then new evga precision, ati 11.8, virtual box, boinc alpha client and finally windows updates. No rebbot, i keep forgetting seven usually doesn't have to do that.

1,2 and 5 got backup of boinc then windows updates and a reboot. I can do 1 and 2 at the same time, then 5 since it shares the lcd with 2, unfortunately it doesn't ahve split screen.

Finlly i attached to Test4Theory. I had wanted to do that since a long time ago but the bsod's kept me from adding vbox and attaching, i wanted to get the machines stable first. they actually have been up for about two weeks now, although my on screen clock shows a max of 7 days 18 hours on b, because i did rebbot once for something else and i've rebooted a several times for other reasons.

I did figure my GFlops today on the warp kore, that is according to boinc. My total gpu output is 14,334GFlops.

ps
i may not show up here as much, since this project runs so smooth and the forum is so quiet. i now also moderate at Correlizer and LHC 1.0 so i may begin to appear there more and as soon as RadioActive starts to ship detectors, end of the month, i'll be busy with that project too, plus of kourse alpha testing clients and i'm helping my nephew, he is developing stats for our team. Not sure how this is going to work out but our team website will have team members only stats and a team logo banner. Something i had wished for since joining the team back in 2004 then taking over kontrol of it, but was never able to get this project off the ground.

Now to get back to testing my new alpha client.

Thank you for the WIN.

I do not have time in my schedule right now to run a new game, someone else can start one. Sorry for this but i'm quite busy with a lot of things i have been negelecting for a while, i need to attend to those first.

Understood. Please lock this thread.

See the next thread (Word Link #1) for something completely different.

OK

We can have 2 games running in parallel.

I am restarting this one for Keith's win

Bit slow coming back on this but some things have taken off this week - Monday new consultancy contract for a few months; today in for a butt inspection ... painful, recovered and all OK - Wednesday and Thursday all day training on how the European Commission likes to have sector company R&D proposals put together.

Next post is a new competition thread
