I have a question for you WINNERS....does anyone here do "bitcoin"? If so is it worth it or is it more hype than anything else. Also IF you do it how do you get the CASH?!!!

And NO this can't be Off Topic as we technically have NO topic other than to post and win!!

Information is in the Bitcoin Wiki. Whether it's any good or not depends on whether you and other participants 'trust' the system and each other.

Just as a dollar bill is only a piece of paper, a bitcoin has no intrinsic value either.
[edit]If it's just electronic fund handling you're interested in, I'd use PayPal rather than Bitcoin.[/edit]

yES AND nO.

I do not do bitcoin directly, but by participating in Donate@home, part of gpugrid, the bitcoin money goes to sponsor their project and fund fellowship type students for the project or research, see their website for what they do or have done. I just boinc along using my gpu, they do whatever they do, but my contribution (by my komputers) gets folded (pun intended) in there somewhere.

and now to change the topic, WINNING !!!

ps,
I forgot to actually state the winning event last game, if you didn't figure it out from my clue, it was the first post after the time change, which was Mikey's. I woke up at 3:40am, but no one had posted yet then. Yead instead of sleeping an hour later I got up an hour earlier compounded by the fact that the klock had to be set back so i got up two hours earlier than normal. Now i'm sleepy...

THANKS KEITH and John!!!

As for BitCoin I AM crunching for them right now and had 1/3 of a coin already. But I have no idea how much a coin is worth or if it is really worth it. Keith & Randy I saw the Donate@home thing but was looking to supplement my crunching income! Randy I saw the Wiki but was hoping for a more hands on first hand experience thing.

I looked in to it. Prices vary, it depends on what you trade your bitcoin for. Basically 1 bitcoin = 10 usd. You got about $3.33. I found one merchannt selling koffee for bitcoins only. 12 ounces for 1.45 BTC which you can buy similar koffee at 16 ounces (more) for 9.99 USD (less), so it costs more with bitcoins not to mention the cost of electricity to generate a bitcoin.

How many hours did it take you to get 1/3 of a coin ?

Doesn't sound worth it to me.

I thunk I'd just go buy a warm kup of koffee and let my komputers use some warm electricity for benefits to humanity instead of just beneifits for myself, in the long run i'd be happier.

It has taken me about 24 hours to get 1/3 of a coin, I JUST checked though and I seem to have slid back to just UNDER 1/4 of a coin and that is after another 24 hours of crunching. I might as well just go back to Boinc crunching at this rate!

Yeah, the whole 'crunching for profit' idea turns me off. I thought about it for a while when the Folding@home projects came out. But they weren't compatible with BOINC and I think I calculated that what they were paying didn't cover the cost of my electricity...not to mention the wear and tear on the equipment!

If I'm going to donate electricity and equipment to distributed computing, I'm going to do it for humanitarian causes, not for my pocket.

I thought, in BOINC terms, Donate@Home was one of the highest credit payers?

Out of interest, what projects pay the highest with ATI/AMD cards, and the same for nVIDIA cards (separately)?

Don't know as I have little interest in that.

Well now that it is quiet [No business] I can think. I got back to some things that needed tweeking for years. I messed around with a couple of scripts yesterday and this morning, then a third one i tried to use, and use daily suddenly failed. Just out of coincidence, the data download contained a stray element that never came up in the past years, or maybe the source suddenly changed thier system and removed a "0" which is now blank. Weird that i was tweeking just those things as this came up, because if it happened out of the blue i might not have remembered how to fix it and by my tweeking the other two had refreshed my brain cell.

So on to another problem that has plagued me for 8 years now. So i'm stretching my brain cellpwoer nad activating a second cell. Some backups. Back 8 years ago i didn't known didly about this system. So when i created backups i did it the cheap way by creating one scheduled backup entry for each day of the week plus one for each saturday in the month and one fot the last day of the month. Now it works as long as i can be here to rename files daily otherwise after 7 days the names repeat and won't overwrite exsisting files. I've been doing this 8 years and figured it's time to figure out how to include the date in the filename so that every day the backup gets a new file and i don't have to rename them all the time. i think i've got it but I want to let it run it's normal course and see if tomorrow i got the right file name as backup on disk. Then i can delete all those multiple scheduled entries and just have 1 daily entry.

definately WINNING today

I personally think DistrtGen for Nvidia cards and Moo for AMD cards are the best payers.

After months of BS and in spite of a somewhat lop-sided Electoral College victory, the American political scene is still as divided as ever. The unwillingness of the Tea Party to compromise bodes ill for this Nation.

I admire their idealism and dedication, but reject their insistence on cutting off their nose to spite their face...i.e. refusal to compromise and get the job of governing done which leaves the nation floundering and drifting downhill.

Yeah it seems as though after 4 years of arguing and people complaining, they voted for the same old thing for 4 MORE years! I voted, of course, and will be sitting on the sidelines hoping BOTH sides can figure out how to compromise and come down off their lofty pedestals and figure things out, but I am NOT hopeful! I personally see BOTH sides being even more entrenched then ever and "we the people" being on the bad side of this deal! I am NOT sure Romney would have fared any better, but at least he would have tried, whereas Obama seems to have given up even trying to work things out! I guess one good thing is Nancy Pelosi looks 20 years younger after all her reconstructive plastic surgery! She looks less like the witch she can be and more like the waaaaay too friendly lady done the street that asks you to come in for cookies! Harry Reid is still the grandson of a horse thief, while Mitch McConnell and John Boehner are both still arguing over who has more power! McConnell thinks he does because he is in 'the Senate', while Boehner thinks he does because he is 3rd in line to be President if something were to go REALLY bad!!

And I woke up this morning and nothing had changed. The outlook is not so good and of course, it's raining again.

I do at least check and see that there is no tag on my big toe, it was tag free again this morning.

I've got some work to do on my tweeks from yesteray for backups. It sort of wiorked. Thre file was suppose to have 20121106 in the name, it came out with 2012November6 in it. Back to reading but that's gonna be a pretty simple fix and then to figure out the logic to pad in extra '0' when the day or month is only 1 digit plus i want to add the weekday name, like Wednesday.

Yesterday i also fixed another problem that occurs rarly but causes me a little trouble when it does. Most of the records contain in the reference number field 2 pieces of data. I had written a procedure to strip them out, when i import that one get broken into two. Well sometimes when multiple shipments are made to a single destination, the additional records contain 4 numbers in that field, the first two being references back to the first package. What goofs me up when this happens is i get those tow references and they are wrong. So i had to add logic to detect when there is a third and forth and instead use those.

At least now i've gotten rid of a lot of the little annoyances that have been there for years. I suppose i should do one last thing and put the 3 chanange rate numbers in some kind of data file and make the script read the file and use those numbers, wouldmake it easier next time the rates used change to just edit a small file than to hunt down the occurances that are hardcoded in the script. That will keep me busy for part of a day.

back to debugging and WINNING

That sounds improbable.

Well I finished my tweeks this morning within about an hour. So much for keeping me occupied all day. Actual testing though will be late tonight for the backup and monday for the next data import. I could make up test data or do an extra backup now, but i'd rather let things run under real conditions to be sure it works under them.

Kwackbooks really goofed up their stuff. I used to be able to save reports to disk in pdf form. They took that function out. But now i can email a pdf copy to someone like myself, then open my email and open the attachment and save it to disk. A lot of extra steps. What a pita they are.

I may be WINNING !

Randy my neighbor took her Prius to Upper West PA, which means thru the mountains, and still got in the mid 40's for her mpg. She had just her and her husband and their luggage for a weekend trip to see his family. She said going up the mountains was tough but coming back down made up for it. She is a very timid driver, so I am guessing she tried to wear out the brake pads by riding the brakes on the way down the steep parts.

John it sounds like it will be nice when the contract is done!

Keith it sounds like your backups are still working, BUT have you tried using one to restore with yet? Maybe you could use one of your older machines in the back to make sure it still works. How are the sales going, is the webpage picking up any?

I ALMOST forgot, since I am turning the big 60 next month I MUST fully retire from the Fire Dept. I can no longer be on disability retirement but MUST transition to FULL and REGULAR retirement! I went and had a meeting yesterday and was told that I WILL be getting my lump sum of money as opposed to to military style monthly payment. I THINK it will be enough to live on AND have some left over to pass on to the kids when I go to the big server in the sky! This coming Tuesday I have a meeting with a lady that is an investment counselor and will probably be the one managing my money for me. I COULD do it but there is info they have access too that I don't, so they SHOULD be able to do it better than I could. I am also refinancing my house to save almost $700.00 per month, no cash out just refinancing the debt, and then using some of the lump some to pay off the credit cards, I SHOULD be able to live off of my wifes income for 2 years or so and then take early Social Security for play money. Which of course means the lump sum SHOULD be able to grow without me taking any more out of it for awhile. The guy that was helping me, the ladies coworker who is now on personal leave, fine tuned my investment choices a year ago and I HAVE made more money, so their plan is a good one I think. Oh they made NO money off that guys advice to me, they were just helping for a possible piece of the action later on. I have some questions for the lady but am pretty sure she is the one that I can live with managing my "portfolio". I am NOT able to JUST live off the interest, it is NOT that big of a lump sum, but it is ALL I have so it MUST be well managed for me so it can outlast me!! They all work for a big boss who has group meetings and the GROUP goes over EVERY persons portfolio they manage at the meeting, so I will get the WHOLE firms knowledge not just the one persons. Although the lady will be my main contact I WILL be able to call the big boss at any time if I have questions or concerns that she can't, or won't, answer to my satisfaction. I think basically as long as it is going up I will be happy.

Mikey,

Sales are down and out. This is now off season. Cold = Less boating. There are however commercial fishermen still running. People got to eat so they run year round. Some of them are buying new equipment nad the government has declared they must have vessel monitoring systems on their vessels by Jan 1st. This means more sales for us. These report the vessel position and if they go 1 inch out of the designated zone, the coast guard comes and fines them, they have to quit fishing for the day. They also have to report 1 hour before leaving the dock and then report 1 hour before they decide to return. I guess that is so there can be random inspections when you arrive at the dock, they know whne you will be there. Yes it all sounds silly. What does it mean for you. Well more expenses for the fishers means higher prices at the fish market or restaurant.

Yes backup are still running. I have several type. Then one i'm working on now is the SQL database backup. It takes less than a minute to backup every day. It runs on a schedule in the wee hours of the night automatically. Like "I said before i didn't know SQL language before, so i made the backups hardcoded one for each day of the week and one for each saturday 1 thru 5 of the month. Those are all disabled now and i have one that properly puts the date '20121108' and weekday name 'Thursday' into the file name. It even adds a number 1 thru 5 for the Saturdays. The weekday name and saturdays just help me when i look at fiel names. In the past though if i did not rename manually the backup file, after 1 week the names would repeat and it does not overwrite, so no backup would be made anymore. Now every day it will have a unique name and i don't have to worry about it. Just one of those little things. We've only had this system since 2004. At first it was on my list and then, well so were so many other things i just kept on doing it the manual way.

I've done quite a bit of learning though, all those 'scripts' i use for import are written in SQL for the database. A lot of the modifiable parts of our system use it and over the years i've larned bits and pieces. I still don't understand a lot but know enough to get done what i need. There also is a good online reference now that has every command and some explanation. i use it a lot.

Well that project is done. I just need to monitor the backup the next few days. I do compress the files, i suppose next i should figure out how to do that automatically too. Yes i have used a restore once on the database and the compressed file uncompressed fine and restored ok.

I keep back about one month on the server raid drives, no worries there. Beyond that these get copied to my backup drive and then replicated through the other backup drives so i have like up to 6 copies of each backup.

I'm looking into an online service, the one i use for home works well. they have a business version, don't know the cost, but i could backup multiple systems and have a common dashboard to monitor them. i need to look into it more. Those can run automatically and i can specify which folders on each system to backup daily.

i do need to sit down here soon and install that otehr program i have that images the drive including the system area and winderz and do that on every system and saves those into my backup collection.

i have plenty of time over the next few months to posibbly explore some of this stuff.

oh yeah, i'm WINNING

Hey no laughing, this is SERIOUS!!!

Keith can you access at least one of your work pc's from home? Maybe the boss would buy you a pc, that you could also crunch with, that could talk to your work pc's and you could automatically copy the backups 'off site' instead of paying for the cloud. You could get 'removable' drives and as one fills up just replace it with another. The idea of BOTH home and work getting wiped out, at the same time, is pretty small so would work well for both of you. BUT it is also close enough that you could go home and get the backup if needed in a very short period of time.

You could get 'removable' drives and as one fills up just replace it with another. The idea of BOTH home and work getting wiped out, at the same time, is pretty small so would work well for both of you. BUT it is also close enough that you could go home and get the backup if needed in a very short period of time.

Pretty small changes of both of us getting wiped out, remember we get wiped out by H........s a lot. Not a small thing here. Home is within that 300 mile wipe out radius of 'em.

Drives fill up. I haven't filled up a 1GB drive yet (2/3rd full) and i got some stuff back 8 years. A lot of it needs to be wiped, it's never been used and never will be. I've got some older drives somewhere offline with other even older stuff.

At the current time i do not have home access to work or work access to home. i could maybe through one of those services, but since we switched to cable internet and i changed the router, our ip changes periodically. I did not poke holes in the new firewalls for access. I could, then it would just be a mattter of me looking up the ip and i could do that through any of my boinc accounts as it would be up to date from the boincers running. thought of that before but i'm not interested in working at home really so not haveing it is an excuse to keep the boss man from thinking i can work at home. I need time off. Also there would have to be electricity and cooling, my home is maxed out with what i got. i'm running an air conditioner now in my room while the rest of the house has heat running.

Naw, at this point it would be safer and easier on me for cloud storage, i'd have to do less for automatic backups and over time probally too the cost of cloud storage would be less than drives and a whole nother system and a repalcement for it when it goes belly up.

Now that i'm done with Mikey's question i remember why i popped in.

So today since i'm done with script and backup tweeking for a while, i decided to get back to listing leftover merchandise for sale. Yes i still have piles and piles of stuff hidden on shelves everywhere to do. I did make good progress today finding photos and descriptions for 5 or 6 items. it takes a lot of work to add one when i have to figure out what it is, search the internet for info on it, find photos and then enter all that into the appropiate boxes on the form.

WINNING!!!

Mine is looking to be in the low 70's on Sunday it is a downright heat wave!! My pc's WILL suffer!!! I ALWAYS have the window open in the basement with a floor model a/c unit exhaust blowing out thru it, but the last few days I have turned the a/c off and it is still ONLY in the upper 70's! The floor is actually cool when I walk barefoot, down by the pc's though it is MUCH warmer.

Keith I had not thought of the boss man asking you to work from home, that makes sense!

[edit]My local Bestbuy store has a GTX 440 2GB video card on clearance for $42.99. I've got $15 worth of Rewardzone certificates (or maybe only $5, 'cause I thought I used the $10 one even though the web site says it's still valid), and that will bring the price down to $27.99 +tax. It's got 96 cuda processors, which is double the 48 processors for the machine I'm targeting to upgrade.[/edit]

RandyC is in GPU upgrade mood
But preceeds with something hot.
When he changes GPUs he reverts to upgrade mode
and the hot and spicy will cool him not.

PLUS with an app info file you CAN run more than 1 unit at a time, maybe even quadrupling your output!! MOST gpu units easily fit in less than 512mb so MOST 1gb cards can run 2 units at once, as long as you can keep them cool!! With your new 2gb card you can perhaps run 4 units at once!!!

@Mikey, can you point me at a post or web page explaining how to do this? Is it on a per-project basis, or global for anything on the computer?

Sitting here in the dark. power went out. at first I thwart I just tripped a breaker, but then I noticed other stuff off and when I looked outside, across the street all those house are dark. then the massive glow from the shopping centers is out. for some reason through I,ve still got Internet as long as my battery backups hold. All my computers are off but I can use my iPad for 11 hours on battery. I checked work and the power is off there too, so it must be a big black out.

good thing I just finished dinner when it went out.

at least I can play games for a while.

winning in the dark.

Ps,
it seems some 40,000 plus customers in several counties are without power. Go to www.dom.com and look for the outages at the bottom. I can't get the interactive map to display on the iPad but I found a summary from two minutes ago saying how many people were without power.

Checking out that map this morning, I don't see any problems in either VA or NC.

What project is it for, I may have a copy that might work. Otherwise go to the project itself and ask, someone will have one they will post for you.

Yeah, we have kwick repair krews. Power was back on at 7:30, only out 1-1/2 hours.

I think it was my kruncherz that overloaded the lines

The lights were back on by 7:30 p.m. after close to 40,000 homes and businesses lost power from Coinjock in Currituck County to Ocracoke. About 2,200 of the outages were in Elizabeth City, said Dominion spokeswoman Bonita Harris.

Crews found a power line down in the sound near the Wright Memorial Bridge, Harris said. It appeared that salt contamination might have been the cause

Salt comtamination, imagine that being were almost in the salt water ocean. That salt contamination was what ate up the 5 of 6 ground points in my kar when i last had problems. Should be good for another 12 years.

When the power kame back on, it scarred the .... out of me. I got tired of sitting so i was checking out some things, wondering how much pwoer some of my back-ups still had. I was down to 17 minutes on the one powering the internet as i had left the one komputer also on that one on for a while. some of the others had still an hour or more of life. So just as i pushed the display button on it, the power came on and the air conditioner right by my ear kicked in. My hair stood straight out. What luck to be pressing a button at the exact moment power comes back.

i'm WINNING now !!!

ps
link to a article with map, showing the outages.
legend, blue = small, yellow = more, red = very many

and from the outage point (bridge) down the outerbanks to hatteras is about 75 miles plus another 15 to ocracoke.

then add 20 miles from the bridge north.

It seems too though it affected areas back past the outage point, not sure why that would be.

I slept in this morning until 7AM, that is LONG for me!!! It must be this cold I am fighting, but ever since I put my electric mattress pad on the bed it IS helping me sleep longer and better! An electric mattress pad is just like an electric blanket but under you instead of on top of you, it is NICE!!! It goes under the fitted sheet and then radiates the heat upwards towards you, the only problem I have ever had with it was many years ago when the pipes buried in the concrete at the Fire Station burst and they refused to fix them and it got down below freezing in the bunk rooms! Then I would have to roll over just so the top of me wouldn't freeze!!

...stay awake ?

Spent a lot of the morning untangling my sweet tater vines and moved the other tub in. I think there are some taters to harvest. The storm and the cold spell did the plant in, it only has 3 small leaves left and i've managed to get the vines hung up around the window so that at least the 3 leaves left are in the warm sun. it might come back, it's looked worse before and revived. The first batch has less vines and only 1 leaf.

I had to put on shorts as it's rather warm again, in the 60's outside.

Now after a bowl of hot chili, it's knap time. zzzz...

Feeling really dragged-out and tired this morning. Strong wind and heavy rain made for a restless night. Temps are still moderate this a.m., but scheduled to drop like a rock in late afternoon...from mid-50sF into low-40sF by sundown.

If I can get some caffeine in me somehow, I might be able to function and be...

NOT WINNING.

Came in this morning, everything off since the black-out friday. The database server starts and goes beep-beep-beep. An error code that deos not exist in any manual. no video and several attemts to find a bad part yeild no help. possible mainboard dead and the thing is 8 years old, an exact replacement was not avaialable.

Frankly I don't want to deal with it. this is the problem and i've got otherthings to do and things i can't do while it is down but there is noone else to fix it. I sent it with the bossman to a local computer store, maybe they can do something.

I'm just thinking of all the stuff (hard setup work) lost and having to redo everything in some other system, i'm not 18 anymore and i don't have the energy to do this.

Probally i'll be offline a few days.

I finally broke down and ordered the WinTV CD in hopes of getting my reinstall of Win 7 on the SSD to work properly. The scheduler keeps crashing every time it starts to record video.

It was 77F in my house today, NO WONDER I was sweating!!! I take 14 pills every morning, a combo of vitamins and prescription pills, and was bagging up a bunch and was sitting there sweating!! I put a days pills in snack baggies so I don't have to go thru each and every bottle every day. It makes it real easy when I travel too. I do all 6 of my dinner pills that way too, I take some of the same pills at dinner too.

Yesterday was not a good day all around.

Server blown up, its something on the mobo. After calming down and a good knights sleep, i realized that the radi controller was lighting up. so possible all i need to do is pull the controller and the 4 harddrives and plug them into another computer, if i have one with a compatible slot. Since they are hot swap raid drives i might have to somehow power them in the case they are in as i don't know if i can remove the entire hot swap cage, if i can bypass the mobo so i don't hear the bleeping beep-beep-beep. I think there might be enough cable to between them and the card to do so if i could lay two computers near each other. The o/s and server stuff is all on the raid drives. Silly i didn't think of this earlier. I also do have my other computer that the o/s drive died on that i haven't fixed yet and it had a beefed up psu since i ran a gpu in it. I think between the two i can get something running. then maybe i can look for new parts to repalce the mobo, cpu, memory and video in the failed server. Moat likely since they are all 8 plus years old it would be best to replace them all.

Now yesterday also at one point after using my cell phone it would not end a cal, frooze up. after a while it fixed itself. kind of odd.

When i got home one of my komputers was doing a krash dump.

At that point I was afraid to push the start button on the microwave and kook dinner.

Yesterday being a holiday did help as there was not much else to do so wasting time getting nowhere in repairs did not put me back to much. however now today i have lots of orders to catch up on shipping and then i'm sure a lot of other things so my attempted repairs might have to wait. it's not going to be a fun week either.

Wednesday the boss and another guy leave early for a training seminar, leaving us short handed. i'll ahve to pick up the slack while orking half cripled and slow as all my automatic tools are offline and setting up things in kwackbooks is going slow as all information needs to be reenderted which is going slow by hand one at a time to further slow things down.

Next week won't be any better being a short week and i'm not working on these any on my 4 day weekend.

No Mickey, I sleep on a futon in the couch stlye position, there is only one side to get out on.

But good news. I built the frankenputer a few moments ago. Every thing was compatible, image that. Cables were long enough. The hot swap raid drive assembly is still mounted in the dead server unit. I was able to take the 64/32 bit pci controlelr card and plug in, barely, into 1 of the 2 32 bit pci slots in my old computer that had a blown up hard drive. It has on board video so pulling the gpu out was ok (sorry boinc). It has a beef'd up psu. The old server only had 425W and this is a 600Wer. I needed 6 of those 4 pin connetors and had 9 avaialble so power was no problem. Now there is a question of this other cable that comes of the raid control board and went to the server mobo. I took a chance that it was some auxitiry feedback or monitoring cable as i have no place to plug it in.

Power on on the new unit and after some stuff passing by on the screen the raid drives fired up and then winderz 2003 fired up and went into server mode. I had a few driver issues for 'new hardware' but i'm missing like 'audio' which i don't need in the server.

next i went to one of my stations and rebooted.

checked a network drive folder and had access.

loaded our software and it loaded and ran with database access.

i do need to power down and see if i can get a fan running that is behind the raid drives, although they may be fine if i leave the case open, there won't be much heat except for the drives. I'll consider pulling the raid drive assembly out if i can and just sit it beside, on top of the new frankenserver.

i do have some test to do but i think i things are ok now and i can get back to catch-up.

Maybe tomorrow i'll see about the other rebuilds and putting things back in a neat way, they are spralled out on the floor at the moment.

maybe WINNING

One of my teammates gave me a good idea. I need to look into this a little, but basicly i'm going to make a virtual server copy/backup type thingy. I think then in the future if my Frankenserver dies, i could run the virtual server on any other unit, restore the latest database backup and not be in a bind with lost information or time.

I actually did this once before on one of my computers making a virtual copy and ran it on my netbook. I do need to make some better backups of entire systems.

I'm thinking an image copy and a virtual copy.

I may also look into offsite hosting of a virtual server. Let someone else worry about the hardware.

Just options to look into.

My boss should be back in the office today. Yesterday he was out with an emergency medical problem. He was supposed to go today to a seminar, but I think his plans for that are canceled. One of our tech's is on a heart monitor, so he is in not so good shape either. The other two guys recently had problems and were out.

I'm the only one in good physical (not mental) shape.

I may be WINNING but then it could be just a delusion.

WOW I go away for ONE DAY and Keith has a major brain storm, WELL DONE KEITH!!!

I had my first meeting with the Wells Fargo money manager/financial planner yesterday and she was REALLY good at answering ALL of my questions with no apparent BS at all! I think she will be the one that gets my money come January! I asked why I shouldn't think of her as another Bernie Madoff and she said because he BOTH took your money AND invested it. With her firm Wells Fargo, and MOST other firms too, they are separate entities. I send my money to Wells Fargo but SHE never sees it, YES she can make poor choices in the investments but SHE and her coworkers NEVER actually handle the money themselves, it is a different part of Wells Fargo that tells her how much is in there. Which means there would have to be a MUCH different scheme to get my money, and it is MUCH easier to track! Bernie took your money AND sent you reports on how that money was doing, so he had no one else insulating him from your money! Essentially he was a relative you give money to to invest for you, you KNOW when you give it to them you will NEVER see it again!! Wells Fargo itself will send me quarterly reports on how my investments are doing and they are generated by them, NOT by the office where the lady works.

WOW I go away for ONE DAY and Keith has a major brain storm, WELL DONE KEITH!!!

Well, it's more like my brain is becoming cloudy and overcast. Like the weather it sometimes will have a spark of lightning but often bits fall out of it.

Today I put a couple spare 120mm fans i borrowed from home, on the raid array. It had air being sucked through it when it was in the server, but no direct fanage. It felt rather hot to me, could touch it but you would not want to hold your hand on it longer than a few seconds. It has vents in the front, none on the back as there is a pcb mounted on it. There are some sort of areas on one side that wil act as ventage. so using some twister ties i hung one fan over the front, force blowing air in and stuck one on the side sucking hotter air out. It is cool to the touch now. The fans are a little noisy being, but not more than that whole old server was. I ordered a few cooler master turbine fans, which produce good airflow but run quieter than most fans. I got some mach 1.8 (1800rpm) and some 1.2's (1200rpm) to try. If the 1.8's are still a little loud i may use just the 1.2's. I would like it a little more quieter in here. The thing is exposed but it sits on top a computer, now the frakenserver which sits on top of another computer, all between a rolling table with monitors on it and the wall, so it is a little protected but does have good airflow front to back. I do need to put some sort of protective sheet over the exposed pcb, but not seal it in so air can flow around it. Where it is there is little chance of anything falling into it, but a little extra precaution won't hurt.

I had looked at repalcing the parts in the server unit, but the mobo, psu and what not i am using all presented problems as the screw holes etc in the server are all in different places and i really didn't feel like using a hammer to make things fit so i went the easier route of jsut using the other computer as-is and pulling the raid array out of the old server, fortunately it was made to be removed, sort of and no hammering or sawing was required. It actually has worked out well. The cables were long enough to route out the back corner of the computer to the array, The cover mostly fits so nothing can really fall in the computer. besides its next to the wall anyway.

Now i do have a headache from the brainstorm, i need to rest and let things clear up.

Now i just need to get some proper full image backups done and look into virtual software. I still have things unfixed from 8 years ago, so don't hold your breath.

virtually winning.

No luck there, his checkbook is already in the RED, has been so for years (decades). This is why i'm still here 'orking as I don't get paid big bucks and haven't made enough yet to retire.

i'm 'ere today functioning in slow motion. Actually i think it has helped as i put my sun glasses on so to dim things down some, it kind of felt like everything was too much and my eyes hurt taking it in. Took me 1 hour to do 3 things earlier. Fortunately it is sort of slow. I did a few more slowly and kind of just bee nsitting here, then took a 5 minute knap with my eyes shut so which i jsut woke up from, I can do a few more but the only thing i've got 2 more internet orders waiting to clear.

[edit]Was just reviewing my numbers on BoincStats and I see that starting about 11/11/12, my daily credit total has jumped by 6-8000! That new video card, plus running two MW WUs at a time is really doing a job. I had to take E@H off that system though because the video card actually has a lower clock speed than the old one. The improvement comes from more processors and being able to run two Milkyway WUs at a time.[/edit]

You have a PM.

I'm using a GT440 card. It normally costs about $110, but I had $15 off and it was on sale for $43. I got a steal! It replaced a GT520, which is slightly faster, but has fewer cuda processors.

Running two wu at a time takes about 4100 secs wall time.

See this thread.

I'm running on a dedicated XP Pro system. I'm running Malaria on cpu with MW@H on the gpu. Note: when I activated the app_info.xml file, I wound up dumping my cache so I have a max task in-progress hold on the account until Nov. 25 or thereabouts. Also, for some reason, explorer.exe started grabbing a huge amount of cpu time. I would up using task manager to kill it, and a bunch of other processes that went wild...reasons unknown...this effectively kills the desktop, but explorer.exe can be restarted using task manager.

When I get some time (fat chance), I'll investigate.

Gee, where did you get his photo ?
-
I think his dancin' days are over.
-
He was not in the hospital last week except for tests. The locals could not determine the problem exactly. I'm not sure who he saw on friday, a specialist or someone he got to come in from another hospital and check him out. Apparantly the locals missed a blown disk or two in his back. Not quite sure as i haven't heard the story from him directly. Worse than original guesses. Any story i've ever heard from anybody is this "new" local hospital should be avoided like the plague, you're likely to come out in worse shape than when you went in. The only thing they excell at is picking your pockets clean.

I'm good at recovering disks, look at what I did for the frankenputer. I guess "the man" wanted a more professional fit.

No web sales are way off. Partly because our season is over, less boatage in cold weather so less sales until spring. Also my best selling items "those stereos and speakers" which were accounting for 53% of my sales, the boss no longer wants to sell becuause we had to lower the price too much due to competition on the internet. He felt is was not worth the trouble and also if we lower internet prices, he has to also offer if asked by a wlak in customer the same price and he does not want to sell that cheap. Also too i'm out of a lot of items, i did not restock because of the end of season. However they are getting close to what i had last year which did not include the stereso as i did not have those last year. So i'm doing ok, but not great.

i am promoting our webstite though. I look at selling on amazon as advertising. All those people are new customers. I do see repeats and sooner or later they may need a new boat and call us for a complete package. plus they may recomend us to friends. i found a way to add our name, address and website address to the packing litss. You can't do it with what amazon has online or prints out for you. But i made a "letterhead" type templace and printed up a bunch. when i print orders i stick in a preprinted sheet and the order packing list prints in the blank spaces and it looks all like one form. people may see the web addresses and visit us again on amazon or directly in our webstore. even though the webstore has all the same items and is powered by amazon, the comission is amazon charges is lower than selling on amazon so i'd rather have people shop directly. plsu the webstore is laid out better which i have control over so people may be easier to find what they need in my products. i feel next spring it will do better.

i'm working on fleshing out the invetory some adding some missing items and fixing up listings when i can. Now til spring i have the extra time. In the spring i'll reorder a bunch of good selling items (other than stereos).

ME TOO John!!!

Keith I can see the dilemma with the stereo prices and trying to meet the competition, but feel differently about walk in customers. If you want it NOW then you can have it now, but you must pay extra for that privilege. For instance a website customer can buy it at 150 bucks, but a walk in customer will pay 160 bucks. The difference is the shipping that you make the extra 10 bucks on when ordered thru the website. You sell it for 150 bucks on line but charge 20 bucks for shipping and handling, it only costs you 10 bucks to ship it, making a 10 dollar bigger profit. The 10 dollar difference is the website people paying for your TIME to get it off the shelf, box it up and get it to the post office. HOW you do that is not important, THEY must pay for that. YOU are not free, your pay must be covered somehow someway or the store will go out of business. Your 'job' means doing things cheaper and better so the store makes more than your salary back everytime you come to work. Some days they win, some days they lose, hopefully over the long run it works out better for the store and it grows, and then you get a pay raise! Walk-ins pay the extra 10 bucks, in my example, and the store makes out because you did less work and still got the 10 bucks. When it takes you an hour to box up an item to ship, the stores loses money and the 10 bucks is not near enough. That is why they call it 'shipping AND handling' now!! It used to be just shipping.

I'm stuffed because I ate stuffing last night. No, not the stuffing in my pillow. Although my stuffing was not stuffed in the turkey's [edited].

I'm thankful for another extra day off.

Oh and I'm thankful i didn't wake up with a tag on my big toe.

Now i kleened out the dust bunnies under and behind my bed. They were making too much noise. I found another good use for the dust blower I bought to blow the komputers out. I took the vacuum filter out to the front porch and the dust blower. It blew all the dust back out of the filter and far awy from the house. The filter is like new again and you can see light through the V ridges. Beats banging that filter on a stump to only get it half empty and choking on dust blowing from any breeze back into my face. Also found another new use of the blower, it is a mini handheld leaf blower for the front porch. It blew the leaves out from around all those plant pots, and off the porch. It doesn't work too well to dust off shelves, as it tends to blow everything off them that's not nailed down.

Wow, a whole day to take an extra knap....

ps, I'm also thankful for WINNING !

With the change in the weather, we may have seen the last of the 50sF until near Spring. Long range forecast shows 41F as the highest high through next Friday.

Occasional flurries today, but probably not sticking; so I'm still...

I too am supposed to get some flurries later in the week, must be sending this way again eh Randy?!

Keith give us a link to the mini blower, it sounds kool!

My oldest son has been having lots of troubles with his Nvidia 560Ti card when cruising the net, it keeps giving him "TDF" errors, meaning the card resets itself when going to some websites. It is a Windows problems and NO Nvidia driver fixed it!! Sooo I traded him my almost brand new 6870 for his fairly new 560Ti and hopefully my 'new for me' gpu will be up and running this coming week!! It will replace an AMD 5770 as they are my slowest right now.

I gotta cut this short as practice session 3 is about to begin for the F1 guys in Brazil and it will be streaming online. IF you are up and interested it is at http://formula-one.speedtv.com/ Qualifying will be on the Speed Channel on tv at 11am EST with the race being tomorrow at 11am est, also on The Speed Channel on tv.

You can get one on amazon or similar places, about 50 bucks. Over time much cheaper than kanned air and it is way more powerful plus you don't keep throwing empty cans away.

It has other uses besides komputer dusting. I used it once on the kar. Make sure you wear goggles and maybe a mask. It blew deep ground in sand out of the karpets and from under the seats. I got blasted and pelted by sand, saved me a trip to the spa at the same time. It came out much faster than trying to suck it out and the mini blower is much smaller than lugging your vacuum and hose out to the kar, of kourse i still needed an extension kord. Maybe i'll do that again today.

Oh and it's made in the USA, a rareity these days.

There are similar devices by other kompanies.

Go to one reviewer posted, see it in action.

Rather exciting morning.

My phone rang at 5am-ish. I was just waking but ignored the "unknown" caller. A message was left. If it's one of those automated callers, the message is 3 seconds or parts of it get cut off. This was from a real person. It turned out to be Life Alert, a service my dad uses and he explained the reason for the call and a number to call back. They had a report of smoke in dad's house but he didn't know where it was coming from, so they dispatched the fire department. He doesn't have a cell phone so calling would have done no good if the house was on fire. Strange though as he doesn't smoke and the only thing i could think of was making breakfast and something caught fire but they said, as if they had talked to him, that he didn't know where the smoke was coming from. So I called them back after a while, i had to wake up first and kick start my two brain cells. Spoke to the man and he said he would get an update and call me back which he did within a few minutes. By this time almost an hour was gone by since the first call. He told me that the smoke was caused by the motor in the a/c outside unit and that the fire department had already left the scene. Not really bad news so i then called dad. Everything is ok with him. The smoke was from the motor and it was just filtering in through the air vent ducts. He also has a friend down the street on the call list and she was there and I spoke to her too.
http://www.lifealert.com/about.aspx
Good to know how that all works and glad it was not really bad.

Well anyway I put the phone number of life alert on my 'approved' callers list and gave it a ring tone. i have one ring tone for general calls, i found a good one, a song called "who could it be now". If that goes off i usually ignore it and wait for them to leave a message. All my friends and relatives i have assigned some other ring tone. Dad, his frined and now life alert all get the old time phone sound of a ring - ring bell, ya know old time phone for old timer people. If that goes off well i know it could be not so good. Dad will only call me if it is really improtant as i call him more for regular reports, that way i don't panic every time the phone rings.

Another cool thing on my smartphone is an app i added that filters phone calls. It has a community black list of common telemarketer numbers and there is a personal black list. If a call comes from one of those it doesn't ring although the screen will still lite up showing a call. I can add numbers to the personal list and there is a way to add numbers to the community list. It's just like a spam filter but for people.

I need more koffee

Give it a bit John...it IS coming!!!

Keith thanks I put it on my 'wish list' for my wife to see.

The F1 guys are in Brazil today for the last race of the season and it could be VERY rainy!! The guys will be doing almost 200mph down the straight with rooster tails of almost 20 to 30 feet in the air! They run the slick tires in the dry and just slightly wet but do run grooved tires in the wet. They even have extra heavy grooved tires for the VERY wet! In 2008 one guy didn't switch to the wet tires as it started to rain and the championship was decided by him as he slipped and slid all over the track holding up other drivers until one with the wet tires came thru and won the championship!! He won by 1 second over the guy behind him!!! That guy was Lewis Hamilton of McLaren, the guy he beat was Felipe Massa of Ferrari!! Felipe had finished 30 seconds ahead but due to the points paid for positions all the way down to 10th place Lewis had to come in 7th or worse for Felipe to win, Lewis was able to find his way thru the delayed drivers behind the slipping and sliding Nico Hulkenberg, and finish in 6th place. That meant that Lewis Hamilton had won the World Driving Championship by one point on the last corner of the last race of the season and then by ONLY 1 second over the guy who finished behind him!!! Felipe went from pure elation to utter defeat in 30 seconds!!! There is NO SECOND PLACE in the WDC awards, it is win or go home!!! AND TODAY it could be VERY wet again and the WDC leader is 13 points ahead and his car is very BAD in the wet!!! The guy in 2nd place is another Ferrari driver and his car is very GOOD in the wet!! It could AGAIN come down to the last corner of the last race of the season to determine the winner! The winner gets 25 points while 10th place gets 1 point, so the scenarios are there for Fernando Alonso of Ferrari to win and also for Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull to hold on for the win. It will be exciting, it will decide the WDC winner and it all starts at 10:30AM with the pre-race show with the actual race starting at 11AM, all on The Speed Channel! Or in John's case the "beeb"!

The race is over and Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel won the WDC by 3 points!!! The rain was misting, showering and POURING at various times during the race making for a very good race! The guys used there slick tires in the rain and there were LOTS of offs but some EXCELLENT driving skills were displayed by all! The cars are NOT allowed to have traction control so the guys had to be very careful as they drove thru the mid to low speed corners. Ironically at high speed the down force kept the cars firmly planted to the road, but as the cars slowed down and the down force got less the cars had less and less traction!!! Jensen Button of McLaren won, Fernando Alonos of Ferrari came in second while Felipe Massa also of Ferrari came in third. Sebastian Vettel came in 5th scoring enough points to win his third CONSECUTIVE WDC! He is only 25 years old and ONLY the third driver in history to win three consecutive WDC's! Juan Manuel Fangio was first with Michael Schumacher being the other. Speaking of Michael Schumacher he retired for the second, and probably final, time today! He won seven WDC's in his time as an F1 driver, the most ever!!!

Keith I am glad your dad is okay!!

Yeah turning on the heat when your gas motor isn't running must be difficult to get any out! Unless it too is electric!

Actually, yes, there is a dual heating system on the Prius. Prior to engine warm-up, it will use electric heating. I keep it set to the lowest setting because, if it is OFF, my windows tend to fog up. Also, when it's 32F outside, even 65F feels plenty warm. It is also good to wear a warm coat, and if it's really cold--gloves.

I THINK it means "baguettes/baps", so maybe what he is calling his bread. If so that is kind of what I am having too! I am having an egg, cheese and turkey sausage croissant for breakfast! AND coffee OF COURSE!!

Trying my new fans this morning. WOW. On the raid array which is now outside the original server and jsut sitting on top of the new frankenserver. It got rather hot. So i borrowed two fans from home, maybe 1200RPM, it wasn't marked on them and i forgot to look the model up last night, they are at home again now. Anyway, the new Turbine Fans by Kooler Master are much quieter, even outside a kase. I here them when i'm near the unit but they sound like they are inside a komputer, but here at my desk 30 feet away i kan barely hear the two of them, which is about 75% quieter than the previous two and these are the faster 1800RPM or Mach 1.8 as they kall them. The other tow I ahad running i kould hear way over here, and it was not pleasant at this distance. All are 120mm size. I have one forcing air into the raid array through the front grills so it blow across all 4 drives. The other i stuck on the side where it had the most open spaces to suck out, so between the two it creates a wind tunnel across the drives. I do need a protection grill on the one, but the whole thing is between the computer table and the wall almost in the korner so no one else is really going to be near it. Those fans will kut your fingers if you get near the edge just right [first hand knowledge of that].

John if you are making HOMEMADE mayo then you have waaaay too much time on your hands and NEED to get those other pc's up and running instead!! Sandwich does sounds good though!! Oh and over here I think we call your 'egg mix' egg salad. I use mayo, out of a jar, pickle relish and of course hard boiled eggs in my egg salad. Today I will be making some chicken salad though, it will be made from chicken pieces left over from last nights dinner, some mayo, out of a jar, a bit of yellow mustard and some pickle relish. I put it all in the food processor and out comes chicken salad. Some of the chicken has a breading on it and some doesn't, that just adds to the texture of the salad. I put it all on two pieces of dark pumpernickel bread, making a sandwich, and am good to go for lunch! If it is REALLY good I may even have two sandwiches!! I don't measure I just eyeball it, so sometimes it is better than others.

WRONG!!! It's the Powerball Lottery. And I'm in a pool with 49 other people. We've got 51 chances (some guy's in twice) so I'd get 1/51 part of the winnings. Assuming a single ticket win, I think I could retire on $5 million or so after all the taxes, etc coming out.

That's OK, I like nuke food, well at least for weekday lunches.

But when I got home last night, I Made something with my new Griddler. As an experiment I made, I guess you'd call them 'not french fries'. Tasted like 'em, but were more like chips, not american potato chips but they were potato chips. I used my new Santoku knife that sliced through that tater like it was hot butter. Dipped the thick slices in some olive oil and put them on the Griddler. Cook about 8 minutes, flip e'em all over and cook another 8 minutes. They were so good that after an hour i went back and made another batch (1 potato), but this time i sprinkled some itallian seasonings in the oil first. I have some different oils and lots of different types of seasonings i may experiment with. I think if i slice them a little thicker i might be able to cloe the grill and kook both sides at the same time in half the time.

Saturday morning i will turn the Griddler into the Waffler and try some waffles.

Then later for dinner i plan on trying my steak on the grill side of the plates. Maybe sunday morning try my sausage and eggs on it.

It has two plates for kooking, one side is smooth, the griddle and one side is ribbed like a grill, they are reversible so you have 4 combinations. Then i have another set to make waffles.

They go for like 90 bucks now, but somehow on black friday i got one for 79 bucks, less another 10 buck instant coupon, no shipping and 5% cashback on my Discover card. I seem to hit those good deals every so often.

Usually this time of year i like to buy a bunch of new kitchen toys.

For me today was end of the month stuff, running the malware programs on all the pc's and making sure the backups are ready to start up again just after midnight. I run one to two backups a night, it only takes a few hours at most, so that by the middle of the month I have finished them all.

Time for a game hint.....the game WILL NOT end before December!! Keep on crunching!!!

I'm back, as i roll out of bed.

I decided to try griddler pankakes for breakfast. Set both plates to the flat side, close unit and turn on to heat up. Get out bowl, panckae mix and mix up a batch. By the time i did this,m griddler was hott. Open up and fold top back so it is a double wide surface. Now I kook for won, so I kut the mix recipe in half, it makes 6-9 panckaes at full. I put spoonfuls on the griddler and got 12. In no time they were bubbling, flip 'em all and soon i had a palteful. yumm.

John you asked a question a while back and I think this might help answer it for you:
Completed and validated 28,389.30 667.77 101,400.00
Long runs (8-12 hours on fastest card) v6.16 (cuda42)

The Project is GPUGrid and the guy is using an Nvidia GTX 480 to do that. Not EVERY unit got 101k credits per unit, some are like this one:
Completed and validated 25,907.39 553.59 91,200.00
Long runs (8-12 hours on fastest card) v6.16 (cuda42)
or this one:
Completed and validated 17,023.34 409.47 60,900.00
Long runs (8-12 hours on fastest card) v6.16 (cuda42)
or:
Completed and validated 38,221.21 2,496.78 113,400.00
Long runs (8-12 hours on fastest card) v6.16 (cuda42)

But 60,900 was the LOWEST amount of credits awarded.

Well it's almost griddler time again.

Last night I had a double sided grilled steak. By the time the grill heated up and prepared the steak and got other stuff out it was time to put the steak on. While it seared i nuked some water for instant mashed potatoes then while i mixed those i nuked some spinach and fixed a bowl of pineapple. The steak, which i've had that type before and used my koffee spice rub on, was the best one i've ever had of those. I could not kook a whole meal in less time any other way, although that was not my goal, it makes it nice sometimes.

Oh, i had another dozen griddle-kakes (formerly pancakes) this morning.

At lunch I used another smaller potato and made some griddle-chips to go with a spare bk burger from friday. i sometimes stop, but when i do i get 2 burgers. the second one keeps well a kouple of days and they nuke rather well and make a good lunch.

Maybe tonight i griddle another steak. I've got some chicken and some keilbasa to try later this week.

klean up has been easy too. It kools mostly off while i eat, then the plates remove and it takes little effort to wash them off with hot water mostly and a light rubbuing with the dish rag.

Keith did you see the new ads out for BK? If you one burger you get a REGULAR whopper for 55 CENTS between 6 and 9 December! Might be time to stock up and figure out if you can freeze some!

No problem John, you get well and we will find some more projects for you!!!

Hey I have a question for Keith that involves another game hint...Keith since you are 'doing' your genealogy how far back do you count people as 'related'? I mean if you get to Charlemagne is he 'related' or just 'in your tree'? How about King Henry the VIIIth? How about Abraham Lincoln or even someone on the Mayflower?

That is very probably true Randy BUT my question is...do you count them as just 'in your tree' or 'family'? For instance my wife and I are 14th cousins as both our families have parts that have long histories here in the US. The names I gave in my initial example are all MY cousins, some obviously WAY BACK THERE!!! Actually I am not quite sure about Henry VIIIth, but DEFINITELY English Royalty! After all the winners had kids while the losers didn't!

Bought gas for the car tonight. Cold weather really did a number on me this time.
Distance traveled: 798 miles
Gas used: 7.516 gallons
Gallons per 100 miles: .942
Miles per gallon: 106.2

I probably could have gone another day or two, but with the cold weather I'm concerned about REALLY running OutOfGas instead of faking it.
A lot of cold weather and highway driving so I'm significantly under my target 148.1 mpg, but at least I did more than 100 mpg.

That gas mileage is good during cold weather when battery conditions deteriorate and cannot deliver the juice as they do at 20C (68F). I think you do good.

This morning's commute continues the low(er) numbers. Distance since fill-up is 53 miles on .46 gallons of gas: ~115 mpg.

My pipe-wrap heating cables came in yesterday afternoon. I want to use them to keep the batteries warm(er). I need to figure out the best way to install them. They only draw 150 watts each, which is not a whole lot. My goal is to keep the battery temps at +40F. Whether this will do the job is an open question.

You'll have to wait awhile. I'm not going to be able to get to it until the weekend. I have to rig something up to keep the heavy batteries off the heat wrap.

Many, MANY moons ago I lived in Alaska and we plugged our cars in EVERY night in the Winter, some of that power went to a plug replacing the freeze plug and some went towards a battery wrap. It was just something you HAD to do to be able to start the car in the morning. My dad was in the Air Force and we lived in Alaska for 3 years, just outside of Fairbanks. It was after the big earthquake and before the oil boom, so it was very nice! I was a teenager and HATED having to mow the lawn EVERY week in the summertime!! In the Winter though snow was NOT a problem, it was too cold too snow!!! That is not exactly true we did get about 6 inches every year, but for the most part all the moisture was wrung out of the air long before it got to us. We would get temps consistently in the 30 to 50 BELOW ZERO range for days on end and then boom the bottom would drop out and it would hit 55 or 60 below! It hit 67 below the Winter before we left, now THAT was C-O-L-D!!! For the most part though as long as it wasn't below 30 below we could walk home for lunch from school every day! We kids would have snow ball fights, having to spit in the snow to make a snow ball! We would take our parkas off and run around in our shirt sleeves because we got too hot and sweaty in the parkas! Heck the Sun was out and it was only 20 to 30 below, it was a freaking heat wave!!! I was in Middle School and the 1st year and a half of High School while there.

On the game ending hint, since you guys never answered my question I have come to a decision, I will only include people within two generations as the deciding factor of when the game ends! I have ALL ALONG had a general idea but was asking you guys for the specifics, since I got no answer, I am picking one on my own.

Now you're getting a bit picky there. The answer is a matter of opinion and circumstances.

My opinion is that you should only include generations as far back as you have met in your lifetime.

For me, that would be two generations: my father and my grandfather/grandmother. (technically, it ought to be three generations, since I have home movies of me and my great grandmother...but I was an infant then and have no memories of it).

For my granddaughters, they could easily claim three generations since they've both met my dad and my mother-in-law and have a reasonable chance of remembering them when they are older.

i.e. it's all a matter of opinion and circumstance.

Now see THAT would have worked as an answer! How about a picture of your grandmother at 18 months old in the arms of her dad with HIS dad standing in the background? The picture was taken in July 1900, she was born in Jan 1899! I only ever met my grandparents and one great-grandmother, all the rest were gone before I came along. The great-grandmother died just prior to my 4th birthday, I do not remember her.

Going out this evening to look at a house (again) for my youngest daughter and crew. The pics online look pretty good (...like: who would post poor pics of a house they're selling?), but I need to see it in person. Especially since I'm putting up my good credit (but not $$$) to finance it.

List price is $82K...hope they'll come down just a bit. The walls in the kitchen and dining room are painted PINK! My youngest daughter absolutely HATES PINK!!! Well, an upcoming project for next Spring...

As I said above, I'm not paying a penny...just my reputation.

After looking the place over, I think it's worth at least the 82K they're asking. We made an initial offer of 79.9K to see if they'd come down even a little.
